Default 27-2 price question

i was at a gun show last weekend and spotted a 27-2,about 90% i would call it shooter grade,blue,3 and a half in.barrell, serial no dated to early 70's.the guy wanted 600.00 but said i could have it for 550.00.i told him i would think it over and see him at the next show.i think it is still a little high for a 90% revolver, but i did love the feel of that 'N' frame short barrell, any advice appreciated.thanks curt.

There is a pretty good chance it won't be there at the next show short barrel 27's are usually in high demand and don't last long for sale.

If it is in the condition you believe, buy it before someone else does. Sadly, these are becoming harder and harder to find at a price that most can afford to spend.

For any N-Frame in good working order and without that "dragged behind a truck" look, my general rule of thumb is $500 is a decent base price. As condition or rarity or desirability go up, so does price.

What you describe is very desirable, at a price only $50 above my base line. Be careful that someone else is not buying it while you are "contemplating the ifs".

I paid 950 for the same gun but with the box/papers and 98-99%. It won't be there when you go back to buy it.

Bet if you made him a counter offer of $500 cash he'd have taken it. Christmas is coming and cash is a lot easier to pack home than a gun he's trying to sell.

I bought a 27-2 in 3.5" that has holster wear on the bbl. $550.00 was the final negotiated price which I thought was great. It has become my favorite S&W 357. I would not have rolled the dice if I really wanted one. They are an awesome weapon.

i went to the gun show early this morning and the 27-2 was still there,i paid him the 550.00 and now its mine.i am happy with it,it does have some wear on the high spots such as cylinder and the very tip of barrell.the only thing i found out when i got it home is after removing the grips there is no pin to hold grips in place.i hope that is easy to find one and to put on.the 27-2 with the 3 1/2 in barrell is really a nice feeling and good looking gun and i can't wait to shoot it.

I have a NIB 3.5" 27-2(unfired) that I bought from a friend last year for $550.00. He had been sitting on it for several years and knowing I collect Smiths I was finally able to talk him out of it. Came in a presentation case with all tools and paperwork. Also came with TH & TT and goncalo alves target grips.
Last year I also acquired a 5" and 6" 27-2. Been shooting those and saving the shorty for a special occasion.

I thought that I got all of the 3 1/2" 27's out of Texas twenty years ago! Must've left one behind or they're growing back!...

This salty example came to me from an old Lawman from Shafter, Texas, now sadly passed. It was his last duty gun and dates from 1952 as I recall.

Sorry about the rough photo, but it's a very rough old cobb...

You must have, mine was the only one at the show.... I know of Shafter, it is an old mining ghost town. I will be driving through it in about two months.

Don't drink the water... The mine has coughed up another wave of chemical nastiness I'm told...

The fella that once owned that gun rode the river before the war. When he sold me that pre-27 he told me "careful of that thing... it's dangerous...knocked many an indian off his pony..." I think it was him that was really dangerous...

Most model 27s came with standard hammer and trigger, service grips, and regular black sights, and blue cardboard boxes. For a couple of years around 1975 the put them up in wood presentation boxes with target hammer and trigger, target stocks.

My one and only 27-2 wearing a set of Grashorn's (Executioner) elk stag grips. I will have to letter this gun someday.

nice score..I put down some money on a 6 inch 27 with a 6 inch pipe that the local shop has for $429. No clue what I need it for as I have a 6 inch 586 but whatever the price seems good. Same shop has a nickel 19 with a 4 inch pipe for $410. Could a person hack an inch off the barrel and use it as a carry gun?
