Default 66-1 White Outline rear sight blades

Is there a source to replace a standard rear sight blade with the WO? For me it just seems to really "pop" and helps me and my "old" eyes.

Brownells has the kit, but they are temporarily out of stock...

SMITH & WESSON : SIGHT BLADE KIT, REAR, .126", WHITE OUTLINE - World's Largest Supplier of Firearm Accessories, Gun Parts and Gunsmithing Tools

Not sure if .126 is the right one for a 66. I would call Brownells and ask. You might search around on their website and find something you like though.

I have a Millett W/O on my 66-1. It made a big difference.

Thanks I'll figure out which size works for the 66 on the S&W replacement. On the Millet, sounds interesting, but they don't show on their site any longer.

Your blade size should be a .146

I believe Midway has the rear sight blades in stock...

Here is an example of Millet sights on a 66-1 six inch...

Here is a link to the S&W replacement sight on Midway:
Smith & Wesson Rear Sight Blade Kit K, L, N-Frame with .146" White Outline Blade, Windage Nut, Screw and Instructions - MidwayUSA

I really like that Millet sight, but they seem to be hard to find. Midwest Hunters Supply looks like they might be stocking some, but I couldn't quite figure out from their website.

Wow guys thanks. I had looked on Midway by the Model 66 and not parts that fit multi models - seemed like they should have had it. Heck I will drive by Midway TWICE tomorrow, I could have it waiting on me by 10 tomorrow.

But I must say I am pondering the Millet - really like to keep things factory, but I may have to make an exception here.

Default White outline rear sight

Back in the late 80's I bought a 3 inch 657. I wanted a white outline on the rear sight.
My wife has BETTER EYES THAN ME. She also, has a steadier hand than me. She painted the outline.
Try your local gunsmiths[S] to see if they can do the job.

Exclamation 19-4 Same Question

I'd like to swap out the Rear Sight Blade on my 19-4 with the white outline blade as discussed here.

Anyone know for sure exactly what size I'd need to buy and where best to go for it?
Thanks
Ken

It varies by bbl. length.

Why not just measure the blade height of your sight, and order the same? I'm not sure the front sight height for the various options are the same, and this would affect rear blade height.

I have a 19-4 with a ramp sight and a .146" rear as mentioned in another post.

Default White Outline Sight Blade

The correct rear sight blade is a .146 blade. Order the kit from Brownell's or Midway. It includes the W/O blade, windage screw and nut. You will also need a tool to stake the sight nut. You can order it from Brownell's or make your own. The kit is S&W accessory # 191440000. It comes with instructions. You will also need a special (and overpriced) spanner bit to break off the existing staked nut/screw. You can make one if you have an old flat screw driver bit.

The best advice I can provide however is, go to the Brownell web site and view the "How To" video of changing out the sight blade. View it several times before you attempt the task. It is easier, if you know what you are trying to do in each step and how to do it right. If you screw it up, you'll need to order another kit. Also very easy to lose a spring that you will never find if you drop it.

The spanner isn't needed to break off (as designed) the adjustment screw. You do that with the adjustment screw and an appropriately sized screwdriver. You turn it counter-clockwise.

The spanner makes is easier to put the nut on and thread it in. I found it of little use, I just used my tweezers.

The suggestion to view the on-line video is a good one. Click Here for Midway's Video

I got some new ones right from S&W last month. I was very disappointed because the white outlines were not as crisp as my older ones and one of them wasn't even straight. Still, I prefer the WO over the all black.
