Default 29-2 Front sight question

Came across this 6" 29-2, unfortunately the photos are best I can get. I believe it dates to around 1980. See anything wrong with muzzle end of sight blade or crown? It sounds like the patridge sight was an option on these. Can you tell from the pinning or appearance whether this sight is original? Thanks

That was never an option and was done later by the original owner.

Sure looks good, though, maybe S&W should have offered it on the M29. OP, let's see the whole gun in profile, bet it looks great. You're probably close on the date, the 6-1/2" barrel was discontinued in 1979 in favor of the 6" barrel. Is it a pinned barrel?

Limited in what I have but try this. Pinned. Side plate screws a little dinged up. Roll mark placement looks different compared to other 6"s. If there's nothing else spotted here and lockup/timing are good, $1100-$1300 ballpark for an example like this? They appeared to be going up at a pretty good clip even before recent events.

A couple of Model 29-2s were shipped from the factory with a special order McGivern gold bead front sight, but the red ramp was standard on this model.

Don't like how the crown is so mat looking from the side and the radius does not make me feel warm/fuzzy, I would run from it especially at this price points. Take this advice for what you paid for it.

Don't know how much variance there was in barrel roll mark placement but I notice a difference between this one's and other 6 inchers. I amended an earlier post to add this. These roll marks seem to match up closer with those on the 10 5/8" barrel.
I noticed the radius too.
Not a buyer, just looking and trying to learn a little.

I agree! The muzzle face and crown look naked - they are supposed to be blued.

Muzzle and crown look fine to me. I think the only thing changed was the front sight blade.
