Default "R" stamp on cylinder

I have a Model 66 no dash that has an R stamped on the cylinder in addition to the V for stainless steel. Is it as logical as the R indicates the cylinder was "Repaired" by S&W at some time in the past?

I don't know if S&W was still doing it in the 70s, but an R stamped on a part in the 50s indicated the part was repaired or replaced.
