The posting below also appears in the forum S&W Revolvers: 1896 to 1961 and now in this forum Revolvers, 1961 – 1980. This is due to the differences in the dates found on my model 57 and the date on the inside of the Blue S&W product box. Trying to find which Forum heading is the correct one to use?? Thanks!!

Hope someone can clear up the difference on dates of the following. I have a .41 magnum, model 57 with no dash and number. Have had it for many years and was purchased new. It has the 8& 3/8 barrel with all the target extras – grips, trigger & hammer, orange front ramp & white outline rear site. The ser. no. is N1205xx. It came in the old S&W blue box and yesterday I was looking under the top section of the box that talks about the warranty and I looked at the lower left side where you can usually the manufacturing date and the date listed on the lid was April 15, 1955. I was a bit confused as I thought the .41 Magnum came out around 1964??
Can anyone help with explaining this April 15, 1955 date or am I wrong concerning the 1964 & the arrival of the .41 Magnum? I was assuming it was an early production because of the rather low ser. number – N1205xx - and the stamping on the gun as a mod. 57 without any dash and/or number?
Thanks in advance for any help that anyone is able to offer. Your assistance is appreciated!!
Best Wishes --- Bill
