Forgive me if this post is located in the wrong area. I am trying to find some information about the aforementioned gun I recently inherited from my father. I am pretty sure it is pre-80s. Was just trying to find details on the serial number and value. I currently have no pics, but can post some here soon. I know it is blued with original wood grips. No box or papers. Looks to be in fairly good condition and I know it has been fired. Any help would be appreciated, I was directed to this forum as best place to get information.

Hi Ethan, the 3rd edition of "Standard Catalog of Smith and Wesson" page 398 shows N frames numbered at N700000 thru N799999 as made in 1980. So you're in the right era. Everyone will want to see pictures, of course, when you can get around to it.

Your dad had good taste. Use it and enjoy!

To find the length of the barrel, you measure from the muzzle to the forcing cone...your picture shows you to have a 6 inch barrel. As for value: as always, it depends. I have seen them go from $400 up to $1300...I would think that around $850 to $900 would be a fair price.

Beautiful piece...your father had great taste!

Found a box of cleaning supplies and some grips that look like they fit the gun, as well as what appears to be the original cleaning kit.

Thank you for showing us your Father's gun. Though some of the pictures are a little out of focus making exact determination of the finish a little difficult, I would say the NRA Modern Condition Description would be Very Good to Excellent. Based on what I'm seeing I would lean toward Excellent. The fact that it was your Father's gun makes it priceless to you, I'm sure. The tools you have appear to be the one's that would come with the gun when purchased new, with the exception of the plastic tip on the cleaning rod. The after market stocks are really nice, and now you can install anyone of them to see which one feels best in your hands, and still retain the connection to your Father. I have several guns in my collection that are designated in my will to go to my Son and Daughter, and some to old friends. Those guns are well taken care of, as your 29-2 obviously has been.

Enjoy that gun as a reminder of him.
