DOB requested for my 28-2
This past weekend I did a trade for a model 28-2 with six inch barrel. I would appreciate any help in determining it's DOB. The serial # is N563XXX. This is a very unusual model 28. It has a high polish blue finish which I guess could be a re-blue job, but if it is someone did a pretty good job. There is no blurring of the lettering or rounding of any edges from polishing. There is some purple sheen on the cylinder and barrel, but not on the frame. I have heard that this is caused by the bluing salts not being it the exact correct temperaure. I have seen this happen on brand new guns from the factory, but not very often. The revolver has the best action I have ever seen, and it locks up like a bank vault!
All help is appreciated!
Thanks,
Steve
Here are a couple of photos. The coloration is affected by a good application of Break Free, not in the bluing.

That's a nice looking HP. I've read here that some 28s have more of a polished look to them than others. I don't believe the speed loader grips are correct for that gun but they do look nice, nice grain in the wood.

I put different grips on the 28. It came with the correct magnas and another set of targets without the speedloader cutout. I found out it has been reblued, but I really don't care. It's gonna be a shooter!!!!

Nothing wrong with a quality re-blue. I mean all the markings look like they're still there.

I don't see a thing wrong with it. That's a fine looking revolver.

Replacement grips and a nice refinish. It should outlast you and can be repaired by a good smith if you put wear (takes a LOT of use) on the internal parts. Good luck, Jack

That plum coloring does take some getting used to, but it beats matte!
