Help me choose!! S&W 64-2 Mint to new or 649 no dash Bodyguard SHE IS HERE! COME SEE!
Hey Guys.....need some help...both are great guns...cant get both, wondering which one would be the best choice/bang for the buck? 100 difference between the 2 for me (Which one is rare, better deal/keeper...can both fire +P?..I know the 649 is smaller and better conceled). Again the 649 no dash is NIB and the 64-2 is a 2 inch mint to new, no box. Thanks guys!!!
I value everyones input so please chime in...Thanks..

If your purpose is CCW than the J frame (649) is the hands down winner. The other, while a good deal, is a bit too heavy (IMO) for CCW. Either will handle +P albeit smaller doses for the J Frame.
Let us know what you decide and include pics if possible.

What is your primary use of this pistol? Neither is rare, but the 64-2 is no longer in production. At this point I would advise buying the one that "fit's" you and your need. Never buy something hoping it will be "rare" as the enjoyment should be in using it and if it later turns out to be valuable then good on ya. Do you remember Gold at $32 a ounce? Gas at .17cents... Yea, we all would have stockpiled that rare stuff... If only we had known. Kyle

Hay... Alaskavett... how are you liking the Model 64?
I love my 649 and carry it every day.
It's fairly comfortable at the range, though I'm looking for a Model 64 or Model 10 snub for the range/homestead.
To me, the 649 is a more versatile gun. Perfect weight to handle recoil, carry IWB... etc.
Would this be in West Florence, SC? Please do tell... via PM

With no carry permit I don't actually need a carry piece, but when I decided a couple of years ago that I wanted a compact .38 or .357, I quickly narrowed the choice to the Centennial and the Bodyguard. The Bodyguard's single-action option won the day and I plunked down cash for a 649-6, which is built on the J-magnum frame. Yup, has the lock. If it ever bothers or worries me, I'll just take it out.
I never hesitate to recommend a 649 or any similar revolver to anyone. I'm recommending it again right now. The 64 is a nice gun, but at the level of theory ( ) I would rather have the old humpback in my pocket. I know there are people who just can't abide that humpback look, and I would never try to argue them out of discomfort with a gun that is based on esthetics rather than function. Life's too short to reconcile yourself to an ugly gun. But if you don't think a 649 is ugly, I think your choice makes itself.

Well Said!
I have always liked the 649 and never have considered them ugly. I guess the choice is clear. Thank you for your input DCWilson.

I love the look of the 38/438/638/49/649. Pure function-asthetics be damned. Every time I see one I am reminded of that picture of the South Vietnam Col. executing the viet cong. Like I said-a wicked little gun.

I reach for my 649 the majority of the time when I leave the house. That would be my hands down choice.

I dont want anyone to get upset on how much I paid so I wont tell...it was a steal...a buddy owed me...she has never been fired or out of the box. Not sure what year she is. She is a 649 with no dash and right out of the factory. Thanks again everyone who helped me make the decision to get her!!!! And yes she still has the orginal inspection sticker!....
And yes I am proud to be apart of the Bodyguard J frame crowd...
And no she was not purchased at Fugate Firearms....he sure does have nice ones though!!

I happen to think you made an excellent choice. That's a great looking revolver.
I used to be among those who found the Bodyguard style to be ugly, but they've grown on me to the point that my own 649 became my avatar.
Again, congrats!
