Engraved 29-2
Saw an engraved 29-2 nickel today. Had all the boxes and shippers with it. Is this a factory gun or aftermarket engraving? Never seen one.

How should I know if it's a factory job? I didn't see it, and you provided virtually no information at all.
The box would normally be marked as an engraved gun. And often the S&W logo is on the left rather than the right if factory engraved. Beyond that, without even a photo, I'm afraid you are on your own.

Nice to know you are there for some help. If you don't like the question then don't answer the question. Always one in the group. Maybe my question was unclear. Did Smith and Wesson make any engraved nickel plated 29-2 revolvers. You factory engraving from the factory.

S&W produced quite a few factory engraved Model 29-2s. A factory engraved gun will have the small S&W logo on the left side of the frame and is usually fitted with smooth stocks made of Goncalo alves, or possibly rosewood.

It's a shame posters with legitimate questions have to put up with 'attitudes' from some S&W Forum members. I don't understand that.

Way to save the day, Bill. I've always thought of you as a S&W Superman.

Well, I don't understand why people ask questions that can't be answered based on the info provided and then get huffy when you point out that more information is needed.
The original question was not whether any 29-2s were factory engraved, which would be yes, it was if the one the poster saw was such. How would anyone be able to tell based on what was posted? It wasn't until the tart reply (warranted, no hard feelings) that the question was clarified.
I'm just stating the obvious.
Don't hate me because I'm beautiful.

I have to agree with SaxonPig on this one. When I read the OP my first thought was "How the heck could we know if it was factory engraved"
Seeemmiss: There are a lot of knowledgible people here on the forum, including SaxonPig, who you will find to be VERY helpful. However, you have to be clear in your questions and, if possible, provide good clear photos.

And note that a very small number of us get a bit saucy at times. I think it adds flavor to what would otherwise be a very boring and tedious discussion. If we can't poke each other from time to time then what's the point? Some folks are just way too uptight.
It's like my granddad used to say. "If you don't like the way I drive then stay off the sidewalk."

I think a better way to ask would have been: What marks would one look for to tell if it was factory engraved?
And yes, this forum is full to the gills with knowledgeable people. But there is a reason why SaxonPig is on my ignore list. Some people just seem to be born with an ability to be just abrasive enough to get under your skin and yet still be around and keep acting the way they do.
But that is what the ignore list is for. I'm sure I'm on a few as well.

I don't want to ignore anyone. I may not love everyone who posts but I would never ignore someone. Too much to learn and too much fun to be had.
Jeez, pull the stick out and lighten up a bit. It's an Internet discussion forum, don't take everything so seriously. Wow, a whole 460 posts and you are already ignoring people? You don't waste time, do you?
Oh, I guess you won't see this because I am on your ignore list.
Who else is on it? Am I in good company?
Alright, everybody who has me on an ignore list speak up. I want to know who is ignoring me, dammit.
Wait...

How did this thread get to be about SP?
I opened it up to see a nice engraved M29 and first I find there is no gun, just a glimpse and rumor of one. Then I find it ain't about a gun but is about SP.
I am dismayed.

Me too, dude. I want to see and talk about cool S&Ws, not me. I am my least favorite subject.
Although I would never ignore myself...

Maybe, just maybe you should have taken your own or at least your grandad's advise and stayed off the sidewalk. You do KNOW that i did not ask you to respond to my post, you chose too. And a poor choice it was. But since you steped out there, don't be mad if you get called out. But I guess it takes all kinds.

This is a public forum. You post a question and anyone is free to respond. No, you will not always like the responses. That's the way of the world.
You asked a question that could not be answered. You asked if a gun you saw was a factory engraved model. It was not possible to answer that question given the scant info you provided and I said so. But even at that I added a couple tips to help you. (Check the box and where is the logo located. Did you notice that comment?)
Your next post clarified the question. You wanted to know if any 29-2s were factory engraved. If you had been this clear in the first place you would have immediately gotten the answer you wanted.
You are mad at me because you didn't ask the question correctly.
Go ahead and "call me out" it it pleases you. But be advised you will have to stand in line.
I feel sorry of Maximumbob54. He's missing all of this.
PS: You thinking of buying the 29? Be sure to post a photo if you do.
