Rescue of Model 30-1
Last week or so I posted about a co-worker's mother-in-law having an "old gun" stored up in a closet. I went to see it and it turned out to be a S&W Model 30-1,Blue,3" bbl, in the box w/ papers. A few folks here were kind enough to reply with some info on the Model 30-1's. I told the co-worker it was a very fine piece and was worth more than I could offer. I was up front and told him what I thought he could get for it and what I could afford (a big difference). Couple of days later he tells me his mother in law would sell it for that price and if I wasn't interested his wife would..... are you ready for this.... would turn it in to the next Sheriff's gun buy back !! Moving as fast as a soon to be 60 year old fat man can move I made it to the credit union in 10 mins. and had the gun in my posession that afternoon. As I said it's a Model 30-1, .32 S&W Long, blue, 3"bbl, in the original box with paper work, no tools, and the original receipt from Dec. 15, 1969 (same year I graduated high school)
Also included was 4 boxes of Western .32 long ammo. 3 full boxes and one box of 14 rds. This gun has been shot exactly 36 times. It would be mint had it not been for a few very small rust spots, no pitting, bore is like new. Grips are pristine and have never been taken off the gun. At the risk of compromising any possible future deals, I handed over two crisp $100 bills and took it home. All I have is a cell phone cam so excuse the quality of the pics.

Great buy :-)
I would LOVE to find one here in Belgium, but I have no hope any was ever imported here. So I will enjoy looking at your pictures, that's probably the closest I will get to one.

Wow, all kinds of positives here! Great deal, rescued a fine gun from the buy-back, and scored some hard to find ammo! Quick, run out and buy a lottery ticket while you're hot...

Tragedy avoided - Sheriff buy-back - That's frightening.
You saved one and did yourself a favor too - good looking Smith.

That's sweet! It pays to be honest and sometimes that karma thing comes back to you 10 fold. Nice find! Enjoy it. Kyle

Congratulations. I've looked for one without success. You did the right thing getting a good deal and saving a great firearm.
I'd never considered that someone would take something like that to a sheriff's buy back program.

We all know your local sheriff would be pretty P.O.'ed right now if he knew what he missed, LOL!! Those are fine little guns, and can be rather accurate to boot. You did very well.

Your beat me by exactly 87 minutes E.S.T. I was just thinking the same thing when I read your post. Good show.

I purchased a near twin of yours, but it had been restored and tuned lovingly by its recently departed former owner, one of my gunsmith buddies. When his wife asked me to honor his wishes and help her sell off his guns, I just had to buy that one to stay with me. I had forgotten how much fun a little revolver can be, but that one is probably staying with me until I pass, or pass it on to a valued family member or friend. Did I mention that during the restoration it got a set of custom grips by the great Roy Fishpaw?
Froggie
PS to OP: You realize by now, of course, that the AMMO that they THREW IN would market for almost what you gave for the whole package!!
