Default Model 27-2 question

Local to me is a 27-2 5" blue, no box no anything, gun only. described as 95%, for $650. Deal or no deal? I'm looking for a 27 or 28 and I plan to shoot whatever I end up with. A box and papers would be nice but I'm interested in havin one of these to take to the range. Thoughts are appreciated.

A new production model 27 retails for $989. You have found a great deal on a 5" 27-2 considered by many to be a much better gun than a new model with the MIM & IL. If you dont make the deal, post info here and someone will buy it today...

I recently picked one up for about the same amount of money. I don't know about your neck of the woods, but it would be a fair deal here in the Seattle area. M28's are going for between 5 and 600 here.

Agree with the guys above. Pretty good price for a 5" model.

95% can be pretty subjective and $650 is a good bit of money, but having said that, I think a 5" 27 is about as good as it gets for a 357 shooting platform and they just don't come up for sale very often. If it's mechanically sound and it doesn't look like the side plate has been monkeyed with I would try to buy it.

If it has rubber grips I'd offer less. If it has nice wood I'd probably pony up assuming 95% meets my definition of 95%...

Fair price in today's world. LGS had a 28 for $675 in about the same shape.

I have to get a chuckle out of threads like this one. Everyone seems to want to give a ball-park price for something like this -- and then show an interest in buying the gun if they can find out where it is...

Guys... This 5" Mod. 27 is apparently 95%. It's intended for a shooter. It may have the "footballs".

If it had the case it would be the rarest with it's 5" barrel length. That, along with the tools, literature and original grips (?), could easily be sold for a handsome amount and could reduce the price of the gun purchase significantly. Too bad...

Better run to purchase this gun if it's as described though.... If you don't it will be sold quickly to anyone who knows what it is....

JMHO

I think it's a little high especially if it doesn't have S&W target grips on it but it's not that far out of line and 5 inch 27-2's are hard to come by. It's hard to believe but 2 years ago I picked up a nickel 5 inch 27-2 that was unfired with the presentation case, tools, and paper work for $725.

I assume this is partially directed at me? I tried to give the best info I could based on the information.

And the post says NO box, tools or literature. I stand by my advice.

No criticism intended, R Crabtree... If you took it that way I'm sorry. It was simply meant to point out that many people are looking for scarce guns like this.

TDC, it's all good man. I thought you were implying I was trying to buy it out from under the original poster by giving less than good advice.

I really try to give the best advice I can when it comes to posts like these and I only occasionally will respond to them if I think I have a reference point. I bought a 5" 27 on this forum within the past year and paid $750 if memory serves...had the case and tools albeit they were not in the best of shape and partially mismatched. That gun was described as 98%...again, if memory serves....but my 98% is another man's 95%.

I also bought a pretty rough shooter 5" 27-1 locally for $450 within the past year or so, no box and no stocks. My point being that I try to help if I've recently bought or sought a gun that somebody is asking about.

I'll say it again for the benefit of the original poster....it's just my opinion, but the 5" N frame is the best platform for .357. It handles well for me, balances well, looks the best, etc. My advice on the gun in question is if it's got the wood stocks I'd pony up the money and buy it. If it has rubber, I'd use that as a reason to negotiate. Regards, Ty
