My late brother left me this this hugh gun, it is a Smith 29-2. I think it is Nickel but i am not sure, I am going to take it to the range tomorrow. but i am a 9mm old fat (70). i am thinking i will be selling the gun or trading it for something like a 1911 or CZ 75. i don't have any idea what it would be worth with the red dot scope. any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Here are some pictures, the gun is in good shape. The caliber is 44 Magnum. I think the barrel is 6 ½” long.

be careful about the solvent you use to clean it...I've heard Hoppe #9 can do a number on nickel...(if it's a Model 29 & not 629, then it's nickle)...

It's a nice rig, I'd suspect you could trade straight across for a decent Colt 1911...please don't trade it for a second rate European auto (no disrespect meant to any CZ fans, they're fine guns but not exactly a family heirloom)

it appears to be a nice old pinned barrel & recessed cylinder Model 29 of the 70's...the red dot scope probably takes away from some of it's value, but the case, speed loaders & condition almost make up for it...and the 6 1/2 inch barrel is nice because they went to 6 inchers later...

my guess on value would be around $800 on the high end, $700 on the low end...just a "ballpark" figure...

I would look for a private party to "horse trade" with, I wouldn't recommend trying to trade it at a gun shop...

Looks like a 6.5" nickel Model 29-2. The gun would sell for $700-$1,000 but the scope mount required drilling holes and most folks frown on that so value drops considerably. Someone will want it so find something you want in trade and offer it.

btw...you might want to take some .44 Special ammo with you to the range & try it out with those...you may find that you enjoy the gun & opt to keep it

I can't thank all of you enough, i really appreciate all your help. I am going to look for someone with a 1911 Colt 9mm that would like to trade. Thank You for the nice comments about my brother. He passed away 6 years ago and the gun has never been shot since then. I had a Glock 27 (S & W 40 cal.) that kicked like a mule, so i don't know if i even dare shoot this gun? I have a weak right hand from a heart attack. That is why i like 9mm. I am hoping i can find someone in Florida to trade with but that may not be possible (I can ship). Thanks again Hussky

looks to be around 1977...

I too prefer 9mm myself at the range, due to 4 bad discs in my neck...

good luck on finding a compatible trade...that .44's a beauty so you should find someone willing in due time...
