The 6.5 inch barrel length is the only model 27-2 I don't own and they seem to be very hard to find and those are beauties that you own.

Not too common. I looked for 20 years and gave up.

6.5in M27's
Jim,
I have two, a no dash from 1960 and a dash 2 from 1970, both have the patridge blade front sight, standard trigger and hammer and matching magna grips. I sold another dash 2 I had last year that also had the patridge sight.
I saw one with the red ramp sight last year......... on GB I think, it was pretty rough though, so with the two you have I've now seen three of them with the red ramp front sight.
You got some nice ones there thanks for posting pictures.

I saw a 27 in Portland Oregon gun show last March that had the red ramp and full target that was supposed to be factory. I do not remember if it was a 6" or 6 1/2". It was very nice and I kinda wish I would have bought it. It was priced at $1350, which was a bit high, but it was nice.

The model 27-2 with 6 inch barrel are very common and the 6.5 inch barrel is the hardest to find for me anyway.

6 1/2 " 27
Hi guys;
I know that this thread started out asking about 27-2s, but are you asking about 27's in general?
I just got a 27 no dash (purchased here on the forum) from 1960 with a 6 1/2", red ramp sight barrel. I also have a pre 27 with a 6", patridge sight barrel.
The SWSC says that the early 27's could be ordered in 6 or 6 1/2 inch plus any sight configuration. My question is, which would be the most common, 6 inch with patridge blade or 6 1/2 inch with red ramp on the early ones? Or am I after ambigous answers.
Respectfully;
Mike

I sold one (foolishly) some years ago that had the 6.5" and RR sights, probably 95% or better in nickle, regret it to this day.
Finally found this one when a dealer friend called and offered it for $650, 98-99% fired very little but with the patridge front, which I prefer. This one and my 3.5" in same condition range have to be the 'classiest' revolvers in the safe, maybe.

Here is my 27-2. Not sure if it is 6 or 6 and a half. It has The red ramp. Going to have to bust out the tape measure when I get home.

fyimo: I looked a long time for a 6 1/2. Now I have two, both .357 Magnums, 5 screw. One is like new, the other one has some cosmetic issues. Both great guns. They are really, really, really hard to find. I believe they made very few model numbered 6 1/2" guns.

As far as front sight is concerned I would have no idea which type was put on the model 27's but if I had to guess I think it would be the patridge front sight. I have been told by several dealers that the Model 27 revolvers before the 27-2 with 6.5 inch barrels were more plentiful then when the 27-2 came along in 1961 and they were discontinued in 1967.

Friend and forum member Nimrod44 just picked up a 6 1/2" nickeled 5-screw gun. I understand those are fairly scarce as well. I believe it has the Patridge type front sight. You can see it in the appropriate forum here.

Although not a -2 S series, here is a four screw 27 shipped to Denver, CO in early 1960 with red ramp and white rear along with TH, TT, and TS. The factory letter does not specify which sights or target features it shipped with (which I guess was common on the invoices from that timeframe) and only specifies walnut grips usually indicating standard magna grips. My guess is that the sights were factory but the TH, TT, TS could have been added. Either way, someone wanted their 357 mag set up in the same configuration as the model 29. Somewhat of an uncommon configuration to find for early 27 marked guns.

That was always my thinking, but I never got the job done. Never saw one for sale and neither of the two local dealers I did business with regularly would try to order one for me. Good looking 27s, you guys.
