Manufacture dates
I just aquired a nickel model 37 no dash serial number J2751XX, .38 caliber and a Model 66 no dash four inch serial number 7K168XX, .357 with stainless sights. Could someone give me the dates of manufacture on these revolvers. I carried a four inch 66 when I was a uniform officer. Unfortunately, I did not buy my issue gun when the dept. changed to semi-auto. It is nice to have one again.

Thanks
Bama biker, thanks for the info. The 66 works out perfect, that was the year I was sworn in as an officer! Are you coming down to PCB for Thunder Beach?

I am new to the forum. I just purchased a S&W .38 Special with "Mod.3" stamped on the gun and also "7 K" present when the cylinder is open. Serial number is 604921 on the handle butt but also has 96479 above the 7k when the cylinder is open.
Weapon has a 1.75 inch barrel total.
Can anyone tell me more about this weapon? Help appreciated.
Thanks.

Welcome to the Forum. If it has a 5-shot cylinder you likely have a Chief's Special or model 36, but there are all kinds of possible S & W .38 Specials with that SN. Can you post a photo?

I am also new to the forum. How is it you guys tell what year the gun is,from the serial number? Is there some where to look this up or is it knowledge of the guns ? I just purchased a model 27-9 and a ruger redhawk. I am curious how old they are.

It works. That's what this thread is about. Or, you could have started your own.

Yes it has a 2.5 inch barrel. Does the "CBP" in the serial signify anything?I been surfing and was wondering if it stands for U.S. Customs and Border Patrol? Thanks snw19_357 for your reply! I appreciate your help with a beginner.

Nope, it's just a serial number prefix.

Mfg date & value for M15-4 2" blue
A friend has a M15-4, 2" blue that has been in the box in her closet for more than 20 years . Ser #96K32XX, it is showing some wear (I will see it tomorrow). Has both original wood grips and Pachmayr. Would like to know age and value as she would like to sell it. I could only find 4" on Gunbroker. Thanks for any info I can get!
