Question Help on a W.C. Cabell PPC barrel

I have a model 10-5 that was converted to a PPC gun.
Aristocrat rib, ball detent on the yolk, polished trigger w/ adj. Stop, etc.
And it has a round 6" bull barrel with W.C. Cabell stamped on the side of the barrel.
I was just wondering if anyone knows this barrel maker? I have done my level best and I can't find any info?

Oh, and for the record, the gun is incredibly accurate, 2" groups at 25yds off a rest.

Thanks in advance for any info.

Warm regards,
Newellj

I had done several PPC combat pistols on a 65's and 1 on a mod. 10 also built the ribs when I didn't use a Bomar rib and I had my ribs roll stamped and I'm guessing that maybe he used a barrel from Brownells and had it professionally stamped with his name. The roll stamping on the barrel is very good and again I may be all wet. Jeff

Thanks Jeff!
I never thought that it could just be the owner's name? because, as you said, the roll stamp is quite good.

All the best,
Newell

Most custom gunsmith's when building up a signature gun will roll-mark their name on the gun somewhere.

Default Walt Cabell PPC Gun

Did you ever find out the story behind the PPC gun? I'm a new member. Gun was built by Walter Cabell of Rutland, Vt. back in the 70's most likely. Walt was the Chief Game Warden (boss at HQ) for the Vermont Fish & Game Dept. He was a competent gunsmith and when PPC shooting hit Vermont he built a lot of guns, especially for his wardens. Vermont had a very good pistol team in the 70's and 80's.

As a young warden in in the late 70's and 80's I was "too busy" chasing bad guys to take time to be on the team though I loved shooting and revolvers. I would take it up later and never did get one his guns. If you still have the gun I might have a picture of Walt somewhere at our Magoon Memorial PPC Shoot, in memory of Warden Magoon killed by a "deer-jacker" in 1978.

Let me know if you have the gun, I can give you more info if you want. Wasn't a bad deal to have the boss be a gun guy!

Default Walt's Gun

If you read the earlier posts on this thread you will see that member newellj had this PPC revolver back in 2011 but didn't know what the W.C. Cabell on the barrel meant. W.C. Cabell was Walt Cabell, the Chief Game Warden in Vermont in the 70's and a avid gunsmith.

Years ago before I was a member, I searched the internet for Walt's guns, and found this thread but couldn't respond. After becoming a member last year I again bumped into the thread and provided newellj the history of W.C.Cabell. I believe the gun may have been owned by one of my fellow wardens based on the condition and where it was purchased. I took the beautiful revolver into my possession yesterday, feeling that the gun had almost come full circle.

The gun itself looks like it just came out of Walt's shop, which is unusual as most PPC guns got thousands of rounds put through them. Take the grips off and it looks just as nice. I would imagine it has to be one of the most pristine examples of Walt Cabell's work.

Special thanks to member newellj for insisting that this gun come back to a warden that never owned one of Walt's guns.
