Default Model 63 w/5" barrel. How rare???

I've just found one of these and I'm thinking about picking it up. Are these pretty rare? The Standard Catalog makes it sound like the 5" barrel model is basically a myth. I don't know that much about the Model 63.

Thanks

Not sure about the 5". But GB has a few 3" and 4" listed.

You are probably looking at the new re-issued 63. Not sure they still offer it in 5".

Check the crane notch for the model number and I bet you'll find 63-4. I have a 63-4 with 5 inch barrel and the "dreaded IL" made in 2008. From what I can tell S&W made the 5 inchers from 2005 through the end of 2008.

The originals I think were mainly 4", and the "classic" they sell now come in 3 & 5".
Originals were 6 shot guns, while new ones hold 8.
