Default 17-4 vs 66 2 1/2" no dash trade values

a member is offering a no dash 66 as above. Looking for what I have. My 17-4 is ANIB hard to tell if fired at all. Possible negative is the 8 3/8" barrel. The 66 is described as exellent. The 66 is local so a FTF is realistic. Thoughts on values and fairness + or - $

Thanks,
Ischia

Not sure what the 66 is worth, but my 17-4 with 8 3/8 barrel, would be among the last of mine to go!

Personally, I would not count the 8 & 3/8 barrel as a negative and even if I didn't have 66's I would tend to value the 17 a bit more. 66's are easy to come by and relative bargains (though not as frequent as before O'bummer) can still be found. Been a while since I ran across too many bargain S&W 22's . . . .

Depends on what you need/want/value. To a man who doesn't like the long barreled 22 and wants a nice carry 357, it would be a fair trade. These things are always subjective when the value is this close.

YMMV

I think the 8 3/8 barrel is a plus $ situation.

If the 66 is an early one with stainless rear sight it has a little extra collectable value, but still not worth more than the 17-4 in my opinion.

I am new to the forum, but any questions on model 17;s get my attention. I am not an expert but my model 17-4 8-3/8 with a 2x Burris is a real shooter. Would not care to part with . weldernewt53

Some general observations, all just my opinion.

Condition is everything in a gun,
I have both guns mentioned and consider them equal in value.

The short barrel 66 no dash never had a stainless rear site that I am aware of.
I have noticed the 4" M66 no dash guns with ss rear sites in ANIB condition have shot up in value recently.

The long tube K22 has extra interest for target shooters that desire accuracy above concealability and ease of carry.

Although S&W now sells the smaller 5 shot J magnums the snub M66 allows more accurate and controllable magnum firepower at the range.

Both are great guns so its a win win.
