Default '73-'74

SCSW-3 says s/n D510001-D659901 shipped in 1973-1974. So your gun is probably 1974.

No. The correct term is standard contour, not pencil barrel-it's one of those things that sets off SP

I have always thought that the correct term is "tapered barrel" not pencil barrel or contoured barrel. That is how I describe my M&P 4 inch tapered barrel. Am I wrong?

If it belonged to me, I would call it whatever I please. I also have a
M64, no dash, serial # D504xxx, with a skinny barrel.

Dang. My no-dash M64 is even older than y'alls. D4270xx. Also with the tapered, slender, skinny, standard contour, pencil barrel.

Saw my first 64 on the 5th floor of Marshall Field's Store for Men.

The sign in the elevator read:

Fifth Floor Store for Men
The Sportsman’s Shop • The Gun Shop

And what a wonderful place that was for a boy, I can almost remember the smell of it.
