Default QUESTION: I posted a stainless steel

rear sight from S&W model 66 (from my gun) with a 6" bbl. This was made by Millet, I believe. However, from responses people think S&W (older, 70's) sights were made by S&W and referring to a Millet seems to be a S&W turn off.
Am I correct saying S&W used Millets on their 66's from the 70's or did S&W make and use their own sights ???

With few exceptions, S & W always made their own sights. Millet makes or made one that fits the K frame but they did not come on model 66s from the factory. Hope this is helpful.

Default thanks murphydog

Since the 66 rear sight came off my S&W 66 (direct from dealer) I can say my 66 sights ARE S&W...correct ??

and last, I can see no difference between my factory 66 rear sight and a millet rear sight. how do you tell the difference ??

thanks again

The part of the rear S&W sight that houses the blade is a rounded shape with the blade fitting into a slot in the center of the base. The blade sticks up above the actual sight base.

The Millet sight has a larger square shaped rear section with the sight blade covering the entire rear of the sight base.

Only the forward part of the sight leaf looks similar.
The Millet sight has Millet's name clearly marked on it. S&W's sight is not marked.

1640,

If your rear sights assembly looks like this pictured in either stainless or blue they are S&W. If the rear sight assembly is like those mentioned in earlier posts they aren't S&W mfg for your 66.

First photo shows a Millett Sight ( Not Factory) Millett started making aftermarket sights in the late 1970's - early 1980's

The second photo is the Factory S&W Sight

I recall S&W using a Millet rear sight for a Model 41 in the (?) 90's. I recall at the time how it seemed to cheapen the looks of the gun. Nothing wrong with Millet, just didn't look right on a S&W.

on the other foot, if the Millet in question is their white outline with the bars across the top of the blade, one of the quickest and easiest adjustable sights to come down the pike since the gold bead.

LOTS of Smiths in the Jurassic (late 60-s, 70-s and 80-s) had their rears replaced with these as they gave a better picture if you were canting the gun. Saw many LEO guns during that era so equipped.

So while not "factory", they certainly would be period correct imo, similar to an upgrade such as Kings from the 40's, 50;s, etc.

Just my .02 but...do you have a pic?

P.S. It's a bummer imo that they are out of business. Just saying.

I looked at your post with your sight photo. It is a S&W Sight - not a Millett.

I believe the only Millett sights S&W put on their factory guns were the Model 41 22 autos that had Milletts for a short period
