19-4 Nickel Snub
Went to a gun show today. It was at the jr high school gym the town over. Brought my Ruger Redhawk to trade (my only non S&W left). Ended up trading it for a 19-4 nickel P&R snubby. Smooth action and aside from a scratch on the cylinder it is in great shape. Needs wood grips but otherwise I love it. I already have a 19-4 4" blue and it is my favorite gun, plan on getting more 19s.

You don't say if you you had to give or take some cash in the transaction. If you did a straight across trade, I think you got the better part of the trade. I have the blued version with the same grips I use for EDC. Nice acquisition!

You'll really like the way it shoots with those grips, but still get the correct stocks & maybe a Tyler T for looks and carry.

Took the grips off to check for rust. Absolutely no rust, though to my surprise it is indeed a round butt (wasn't sure because of those conversion grips floating around). I assumed it was a square butt like my other 19-4, and all the other 19s I come across tend to be square.
Also a question, this is my first nickel gun. I use Gunzilla to clean all my guns, is it safe for nickel too?

Good to know, thanks! I never really thought to look into it before. No wonder all the 19s I run into are square butt, this is the first snubby I have found around here.

Have you had it to the range yet? The grips you have on it are going to be far more comfortable on the hands than the originals. I have the original stocks for mine and after a few rounds of 357's I knew the stocks had to go.

That's my visual preference as well. However I've yet to find wood stocks that fit my hand as well as the Pacs that came on my 66 snub. They are a little worn and I'd like to find some new ones to replace them.

Good Job! I got a similar 1 at the last show. BUT... it was a 66-2. It has wood stocks on it now, and hope to shoot it in a couple of days. Enjoy your 19! Bob

Yes I am bringing back one of my old threads, I thought it would be easier than making a new one just to ask a question. 
So, out of curiosity, what is the roundabout value on this gun if I were to put it up for sale? Just a range as I would like to weed out the insultingly low offers I always get for my guns.

As far as I am personally concerned, you made an excellent trade. Don't know the going price for the Redhawk, but to me it doesn't matter. You did good! That one, along with it's four inch brother, will continue to hold their value and likely increase it with time. Only way I'd be happier is if the snubby was blued, but that's just my preference.

Nice revolver. I have a 19-3 nickel snub that I bought in the late 70s. I didn't realize that the -4 series was still P&R. Anyway, if you enjoy yours as I have mine, you'll never regret the trade. Mine still wears "period correct" Rogers grips and is very accurate with 145 grain Silvertips and 158 grain cast. I carried it for years in a Bianchi Pistol Pocket.
I also had an orange insert put in the front sight. Took a few times to get it right, but it was a good addition.

Just a quick glance at sold listing on GB the first page shows 4 snubs with an avg price of $807 with proper stocks, some with box and doc.
