Default Happy boy gets new M617

I am soooooo glad I didn't shell out the big $$$$'s for a used M63. Perusing the internet this AM and ran across a minty M617 no dash. Why am I happy?? Because it was a very scarce 4"er. I have seen many no dash M617's but all had 6" bbls. Cost a bundle, but what the hey, it's only money. Big Larry

Beautiful revolver, you're going to enjoy it. Like you, I waited and looked for quite a while before I found this 4" no dash.

Congratulations on the purchase of the 4 inch Model 617. I have a 617 no dash with 6 inch barrel and I would buy a 4 inch no dash 617 in a second if I run into one.

Very nice Larry love your attitude never have understood why people pass up buying something if they really really want it. Now is this going to be a Range piece or just a collectors piece?

Well, even though I am a collector and this is a primo unfired gun, I will be shooting it. I have a later 6" M617-2 that I bought new and installed a target trigger and hammer and set of custom Hogue Rosewood grips that I do shoot too, but this one is for riding my quad and motorcycle. I have a crossdraw holster I had made for my Combat Masterpiece 22. Yes, it will break my heart, but a man has to know his limitations. Thanks, Big Larry

Good for you Big Larry! I just picked up a 4" 617 no dash earlier this month (July 2011) for just north of $700. Yeah, that seems like a lot but it is something that I have been searching for for a few years. No box, no papers, no tools, and wrong stocks. Luckily I had an "extra" pair of the proper smooth finger combats on hand. I like 22s!

Back in 1999, I bought a 6" and a 4" M617-2. Round butts with the cheepo rubber grips. The 6" was very accurate, a little muzzle heavy, but not bad. The 4" had perfect balance but I could not hit the broad side of a barn with it, so off to the gunshow it went and was sold. I am hoping that this 4"er, that I paid twice as much for, will shoot well. It will replace a rather rare Ruger KS-4 Stainless Super Single Six that they only made 900 of. That little Ruger outshoots my Pre 18 22, but is harder to reload and my arthritis is getting worse.
Too bad this gun has lost its box and tools and papers, but that's what we usually do. Open the box, take the gun out, and throw the box in the trash.
Back in the day of the old K series, it was open the box, take off the original numbered grips and throw it all away.
Very frustrating for a collector. Big Larry
