Default Model 19 Box Label questions

Greetings,

I recently purchased a 19-3 that included the original box. On the label there is an area titled "Special Features".

In that Special Features area the words "Page 7" and a circled #2 is written.

Does the "Page 7" relate to a Smith and Wesson catalog?

My best estimate for the age of the revolver judging from the serial number is from late 1969 to 1970.

Does anyone have an old S&W catalog that dates to that time period?

Thanks,
Cheese

Welcome to the Forum Cheese!
I'd guess that a past owner or Dealer made those notes.
Is the ink and penmanship identical to the rest of the marks on the label?
We'd love to see pictures of your revolver as there are alot of Combat Magnum fans here!

Thanks VM,

I will try and get some photos.

The pistol (4") is in (!!) excellent condition. There is only a very light mark on cylinder from rotation. The grips have been replaced with a large pair of checkered wood target (not S&W model as I can tell) thumbrest stocks.

I think someone test fired the rig and then put it away for 40 years. The bluing on the recoil shield area of the frame is near pristine. There is a small mark near the muzzle (someone dropped it I guess).

I thought there may be some rust on it but I noticed it came off on my fingernail. It is old dried grease that has turned reddish brown.

I used to think poor things about the Bangor Punta era S&Ws having had a few from the late 70s, but this revolver was made by people who clearly knew what they were doing.

The markings on the label referencing Page 7 are in the same pen as the rest of the label. The circled "2" is in different ink.

Anyhoo,
Thanks for the welcome to the forum,
Cheese

My guess is that "Page 7 #2" refers to his FFL Bound records book. Did it that way so that he wouldn't have to go on a scavenger hunt to find the listing when logging the pistol out.

But then again I could be full of buffalo pucky!

Default label marks

I'm with 'GB', have seen LOTS of dealers, small & large, mark the end of the box with one of their own "inventory" marks, very common practice..
as noted above, unless the ink is "identical , and usually in the "special features " block, then most likely "added" by dealer OR even the owner...
