Tyler T-Grip
I've seen a number of vintage S&Ws with the Tyler T-Grip and was thinking about getting one for my Model 10.
Anyone have any practical experience with these? Is it functional or fashionable?
I don't want to put modern grips on a 1967 gun...that's just me. I figured I would stay with a period look.
Any input is appreciated.

Tyler Manufacturing (Tyler T-Grips and Trigger Shoes) has been shut down by the state of Oklahoma and is being investigated by the USPS for mail fraud. They have been accepting orders and cashing checks for almost a year now, without delivering any product. DO NOT ORDER FROM TYLER MANUFACTURING! Their used products come up for sale in the "Accessories/Miscellaneous for sale" section of this site from time to time. There is a gentleman marketing a similar product on this site, made form injection molded plastic. I have not seen any feedback on them.

Thanks for the heads-up. I'm a cheap guy, and have been scouting E-bay and Gunbroker for them. I'll definitely steer clear of Tyler themselves!

If you're cheap, e-Bay may not come thrugh for you. A Tyler sold a couple of months ago on e-Bay for about $250.00!

T-Grips
They have been running $50-$75 each, when they surface. I wouldn't mind having a few of them myself, but I'm cheap as well. They fill in the space behind the trigger guard nicely.

Yikes. I was reading the Tyler thread after I posted and I think this is something that's gonna be on the back burner. If I have $250, I'm gonna buy another gun!

Your best bet would be ordering one of the plastic copies johnsonl mentioned. There's a guy on the forum making and selling them for $25 each, I believe the price is. You can do a search and find them. Anyway, trying one of these will let you know if you like the feel of the adapter and not break the bank doing so. If you don't like it, you wouldn't have any problem reselling it here. If you like it, you can always keep an eye out for an authentic "period correct" Tyler T-grip at the right price later.

I've put tyler t-grips on a snubbie which works really well.
If I remember right--the have model numbers that fit with certain guns---something like No 1 is for J frames, No 2 old J frames (pre '55), No 3 for K and L frames (your mod 10), 3R for round but K's, No 4 for N frames, No 5, 6 and 7's were for Colt: Agent et al; Python; Old models; respectively. No 8 for Rugers.
They were aluminium---may have eventually made them in hard rubber.
They are hard to come by now-a-days.

I managed to get a T-grip before Tyler imploded. I have a M10-8, I can't imagine shooting it without now, it's brilliant. Too bad the company folded up like it did. If you can find one, I say do it.
Here's what my M10 looks with the T-Grip.

I have the T grip on all but one of my K-Frames. They feel great to me and I'll be ordering one of the new plastic ones soon.

I have BK grips on two of my Bodyguards. I love them. Twenty five dollars for one and twenty for more than one on the same order. There in a thread on 1980 to present.

The top of the page says it was last updated March 20th. I'm going to wait until I hear some success stories. I really like my t-grip but I'm going to go with BK next.

I have Tylers on my J frames and I think they are a MUST on the round butts,,, especically if it's a Centennial. But the J-SB's, you can get away without one, but it's nice having them on those also.

Both, I have T-grips on several of my revolvers and they work well. Sadly the Tyler T-grip company apparently has been excepting orders and payment but has not shipped any product for a year or so.
There is a gentleman (Wrangler5) here on the forum that makes a product called the BK grip. From all of the reviews I have read they are a great product and ship in a timely fashion.
Tyler may be under new ownership, but I will not be one of the first to order from them. It's way to easy to either have a shill owner or just add "under new ownership" to your web page.

I have a couple of the BK grip adapters and I like them. The best part is they are about to get even better. I have one on my 64, my 640, and now my 10. Wrangler5 has been nothing but a gentleman with his sales while my order with Tyler went into a black hole. The funny thing is his BK's fit better than my one Tyler I bought used. I hit the plastic on a BK with some 400 grit sand paper, primed it, and added a textured paint. I ended up coating the metallic texture with a satin black but now I'm happy with my tinkering. Use the forum search function for "BK grips" and threads will pop up with reviews from several of us that have bought them. They are also a lot easier to work on to get a good fit on a hard to fit frame. And these actually ship to you with in days when you order them...

And think you're right; the BKs will only improve as he works with the medium, finishes, etc. I ordered two, and will order a couple more in a while, mostly to see the improvements. Great product. As for Tyler, we'll see. I'd like to throw some support to "wrangler" first for his idea.

The Tyler web page was updated 8/4/11.It sounds like they are really back. They have lost my business though.Because I couldntI
buy from them I bought oversize, ugly, grips cheap.I then shaped them and refinished them to suit .

I inherited a few K frame S&W grip adapters from my Dad who passed away a few months ago. I would bet they were not actually made by S&W however for me, they actually work and fit better than the Tyler T Grips. This is my 1st. experience with the S&W branded grips and they are available from time to time on the net. Just another alternative to consider.

The J-frame BK I bought for my M36 SB works great!
Here's hoping that I will still receive the J-frame and K-frame from Tyler that I paid for last October.

I guess my age is showing, but I have several of them...black and silver, for my Smiths and my Colts. At those prices, I am taking them off my Colts and putting the money into the Smith and Wesson fund!

I bought this t-grip the same day in 1973 that I bought the 36. Both have proven very durable.

Maybe you should send it back to Tyler for a refinish.
I went to a local gun shop yesterday and asked about Tyler t-grips. The owner (know it all type) said that they had not been made since the 50's or early 60's!! News to me.

I was in Illinois a few weeks ago, and asked about them at a very nice gun store in a small town. The owner looked at me like I was out of my mind, and got almost angry when I tried to explain what they were. He just kept saying, "I never heard of them."
Go figure.

I put one on a 3" Model 10 and I am very happy with it. The T-Grip positions my hand much better than the plain magnas alone, and it does not add so much bulk like target stocks do.
I liked the T-Grip on my 3" M10 so much that I took the target stocks off my 4" M10 and put back on the original magnas with a T-Grip. Now both guns have pretty much the same feel, grip-wise anyways.

Hey, guess what!
I ordered a shiny black #5 from Tyler's back in March (before I heard about all the problems) and, of course, received nothing. Two weeks ago, I filed an on-line complaint on the Better Business Bureau website. Yesterday, I received my Tyler T-grip, shiny black #5, in the mail. I guess they're still in business, but either running waaay behind or only responding to pressure. Anyway, I thought I'd share the news and give some folks a ray of hope.

I ordered a couple back several months ago, about the time the stuff really started to hit the fan about them. I mentally wrote them off, figuring I'd never get them. I never called, or wrote, or filed any complaints with anybody.
They came in the mail yesterday. They look really nice on the guns. I'll probably order a couple more before too long.

Most dealers in Illinois have never heard of them because Illinois had never ever had CCW. The state is so backward that some small and medium size departments required officer to leave their gun in the locker until the mid 1960s.

That's probably true. I hadn't taken that into consideration. Best of luck to y'all as you continue the fight. I liked the "Burma Shave" signs along the interstate.
Man that shop had some pretty Colts.

Where about in Illinois was this gun shop? If you saw the Burma Shave signs, I would guess that you were somewhere near Champaign County since the signs originate from the Champaign County Rifle Association. As there is a decided dearth of gun related anything around that area, I would like to know if you happened upon a new store.

The store was in Thomasboro. At least I think that was the name of the place. Small town near Champagne.

Yeah, just north of Urbana about 10 miles. The name of the place is Ron's Guns and Knives. He sometimes has some good stuff, but it is a little sporadic.

I asked in another thread.. but this thread seems more appropriate.. I'm curious if the Tylers fit these Altamont grips.
I've recently been thinking of getting these and fitting it with either a BK or Tyler T-Grip on my S&W 627.. but my question to those who have moved on from these grip adapters... do you find modern grips better than Magna-style + adapter? I understand these adapters were created to fill a demand back when there were less grips available. I'm curious if they offer a better feel compared to modern grips. Unfortunately I don't have anyone near me who shoots revos and could let me test em out.

Tyler's will fit any grips with an exposed frontstrap, like the Altamonts in the picture above.

Any grip adapter should work fine with those. If you'd like the same thing minus an adapter, front filled and an open backstrap, you'd want to look for a boot grip of some sort.

So boot grips are roughly the same thing as Magna-style grips + Tyler-esque grip adapter?
I guess what I'm really trying to find out is if there are any notable "advantages" or unique feeling to having the adapter setup. I know each person is different, but I'd like to hear from some of you who have had far more experience than me on this.
NOTE: Again, this is for my N Frame.. I understand for smaller revolvers, having the combo mentioned results in better concealment.. but my question is directed more towards bigger revolvers.

I must be the only one, but I simply cannot shoot a gun with a T grip. There's just too much material there. Fills up too much down, and too much forward, and rams my knuckle HARD into the triggerguard. If they were about a third the size they are (or not hollow inside where I could file them down!) then they'd be ok.

Tyler T grip
I have a Tyler T grip on my S&W 2" model 60. I love it. It gives the gun a great feel. I bought it about 15-20 years ago and paid nowhere near the prices I'm seeing on here. I have a friend that has one on one of his guns and also loves it. I think it is a heavy barrel 4" model 10.
