Default M12 vs Colt Cobra

Already have a Cobra but considering an M12. Haven't handled an M12, but I think the Colt might be a little smaller and probably weighs a bit less (?). I've seen several good comments on the Cobra...seems to be a popular gun with some folks, but how does it compare to the M12? Also, is $385 a decent price for a 95% M12? Thanks.

Colt Cobras are classis for a reason, they are a great gun, about the size of a SP 101 Ruger. They are a Police Positive with alloy frame shortened bbl and grip. Great carry piece.

Model 12 is a good carry gun needs grips made specifically for that model and is the same size as a Model 10 K Frame.

In all fairness, neither weapon should be fed a great deal of +P ammo

The Cobra with a grip from Badger or Pachmayr can be carried in a front pants pocket comfortably, as long as the pants are not tight fitting Levi Jeans.

Both are accurate and dependable. I wouldn't trade the Cobra for a M12. Both use a HKS Model 10 Speedloader. I would keep the Cobra and purchase a Model 10 HB 4" and you would have a concealed weapon with a concealable back up. Both using same ammo and same speedloader. NYPD was famous for the NY Reload with a Model 10 Smith 4" on the belt and a Colt DS or Cobra concealed elsewhere on the person.

I worked in at a gunsmith/gunshop in the late 70's and early 80's and we had many NYPD personnel come in. The word was the first six came from your duty revolver (still HB Model 10's) and your NY Reload was a Model 36/37 or Colt Cobra on your weakside ankle. The same size cylinder/speedloader was inviting but most went for the S&W product due to the cylinder release being different on the Colt. Most carried Bianchi Speed Strips in their dump pouches. The third reload was calling a "10-13" on the radio (officer needs assistance)- in the blink of an eye there would be more drawn guns on the scene that you could shake a stick at. Just my 2 cents-

I have two Cobras and both carry easily in a pocket. While I like the M12 it is not as easy to conceal.

I have one of each. I like the Cobra more, but for that price, get the M12 and you can see for yourself. Not too many around.

I feel that way every time I'm on here about one thing or another. I'm in a constant state of envy and longing since joining this forum...but I like it.

"Now I have to have a Cobra"

I was issued a 2" nickel Cobra as a back-up gun by my police department. I carried it in an ankle holster for several years. I asked to buy it when I retired; unfortunately, I was told "No".

A few years back, I bought an older 2" blue Colt Agent. Same alloy frame; just a lesser finish. It rides nicely in my trouser pocket. I wear mainly cargo britches and I drop a HKS speedloader in a lower pocker.
