Smooth magna stocks...
I've had a set of these for a K frame for awhile, I have 'em on a Mod 17.
I bought another set for an N frame and recieved them today. I put those on an N prefixed Mod 28-2 ...
... nice stocks. Heavy and wider than regular magnas.
I've see Allen-Frame post a Mod 26-1 with a lighter color smooth grip, these are different in grain and are darker.
Both are black washer grips, older stock. Were these ever put on standard production revolvers?
The 26-1 and Elmer Keith commemorative revolvers with smooth magnas came after washers changed from black to silver.
What do you think?

Not sure on your question, but that's a beautiful pair of revolvers and stocks!

Very nice. I love the smooth wood as it shows the grain so much better without checkering.

GF, you'll find more info on smooth magnas, particularly early ones like yours (the nickel escutcheons flush with the wood, rather than recessed brass, date them as early as the '50s), here: Presentation N frame magnas, GOT SOME MORE, what are these from?
Those are some beautiful magnas, nice find.

Smooth Magna stocks were used as early as 1953 and probably before that, and were available at least through the mid-80s. The pair shown below is made of rosewood and dates to the early to mid-1950s.

smooth magnas
I went through a smooth period a few years ago myself............
Found a coupla N's, both of these are from the black washer era
And a few K's, the two in the front have silver washers, the early walnut set in the back has the number 21 stamped inside both panels
And one set of J's that were worth saving
I'm glad I was able to accumulate all these back when grips were still a fairly affordable subset of the hobby.
