Approximate value of a 4" 14-2 "Dayton gun"
Saw one today that belongs to a friend. He just acquired it this week. The gun is 99% plus, but no box or docs. Target stocks with standard hammer and trigger. He said he would consider trading it to me. He doesn't SELL anything! Whats it worth?

p.s. Serial number is K 6243XX.

What he paid for it plus $50?
Or about $500-550?

I would think it would be worth much more than that. Unusual guns like this somewhat defy valuation. As there are few of them and they are seldom seen for sale, they are worth what the buyer will pay.
A straight up nice 14 would be worth $400.00 to $500.00. A Dayton gun should command much more. At least a $200.00 to $400.00 premium depending on if you can find someone that appreciates and wants one.
Just my 2 cents.
With best regards,
Jeff in Texas

David Carrol lists a nickle version in his modern catolog for 1150, I believe. Description says only 200 nickle gun produced. This is a high percentage gun. Maybe this will help.

If the gun was original, with the box, tools and documents it might be worth a premium.o the best of my knowledge the so-called "Dayton" guns were issued with PC Magna stocks, never Targets.
As-is it is a shooter. $450-500 would seem fair, but, as murphydog said "What he paid for it plus $50? ". $250 would be a steal. If he is a friend you may want to offer a little more.
