info on a 10-6
I just picked up My first older S&W and would like to find out as much as possible about this gun. It's a 10-6 hand ejector serial # C913413, 4" Barrel, .38 S&W Special Ctg.,with fixed sights and what I believe is a strain screw on the grip frame. I've attached Photos. Thank You For Any Information You Can Give Me.

Welcome to the Forum,
Nice looking 10-6. The serial# dates to about 1967.

The M10-6 has a heavy barrel, as you no doubt can see. The M10-5 was being made at the same time with the standard barrel (or as some say, the "pencil barrel"). Both were very popular with police departments and security companies. They did very well in the civilian market as well.
It will handle any factory loaded .38 Special ammunition you care to shoot in it. This includes +P. I prefer ammunition with 158 grain bullets since that was the standard load at the time and so should be what the sights are regulated for. 148 grain target loads will be accurate in it as well.

Looks to be in great shape. Welcome to the forum!
Square butt, rounded shoulder PC stocks like my 10-5.
Not much more I can add, Nice revolver.

That's a good looking one. From what I can gather, they made the first 10-6 in 1962, so your gun is pretty early and in great shape too.

Usually better to start a new thread since your Mod. 36 has nothing to do with the topic of this thread.
I believe that serial with the J inside the digits ("floating J") puts your gun in 1971.

That is a very nice gun to start your "older" collection. Nothing like the pinned and/or recessed guns in my book!

Here is my 10-6 I picked up on Gunbroker for $290.00. Previous owner engraved his initials but it does not detract from a great shooter.

I see you're from Eastern Ohio. If you can, try and make it to the S&W Forum meet at North Olmsted Sportsman's Club on Sept. 23rd, 2017. Bunch of good guys and lots of S&W's and food.
