Just to start the conversation, I'd probably be willing to pay up to $600 for what you describe. If the diamond stocks are Cokes rather than just standard target stocks, add $200-250.

I agree with these comments - plus.... I don't know how it is for you guys but the Mod 57s, both S and N prefixs, are becoming very difficult to find in any condition in the Pac. N.W.. If it has Cokes, Pres case, and is in the condition you describe the gun could easily bring $1000 to 1200 in my area today, maybe more.

They are much more difficult to find than 27s and 29s....

Just sayin'.......

.41 mag fans will drive the price up on a 57 pretty fast without even trying that hard. I love my 57, but I got a great deal on it at cabelas of all places. I'd honestly go some place between $500-600 for it.

Good luck finding a nice "N" prefix gun for under $700 these days. A "S" prefix will run easily into the $700s and if it has Cokes on it, that are worth $300 by themselves, expect to pay a grand.

I paid $850 earlier this year for a first year of production 1964 without the Cokes on it. Maybe a little high but these guns aren't on every street corner either.... Two years ago I saw a 1964 4" LNIPC sell for $950.00. Not too long a go one like it sold for close to $1300 on one of the auction sites.

A "new" 57 Classic wholesales for $700 and you get the free Hole in the side of the frame...

There are deals out there...but you also may wait forevere... It's just what it's worth to you....

Bob

ps..went over to GunBroker and did a 90 day search on 4" 57s...there aren't many for sale... 57-1 non-P&R blue with original grips sold for $680.00. "N" prefix 4" nickel sold for $750.00. "N" prefix 4" nickel LNIPC sold for $850.00.

I have two nice 4 inch, S serial numbered 57's with nice "cokes" on them. Finding these guns in the condition you describe isn't easy, $650.00-750.00 wouldn't touch mine and I would expect to pay more than this if I found another one in similar condition.

A 4 inch 57 with S serial number in nice condition with "cokes" would be worth $900.00-1000.00 in my opinion.

Agreed.

Finding an S serialed 57 in great shape for $600 or so is sheer wishful thinking!

Have to agree with you TDC. Prices up here seem to be MUCH higher than in the south. My LGS has (last I checked) four Mod 28's (cheapest one; $595 shooter grade), three Mod 27's (cheapest one: $795), five Mod 29's (including 629) and ONE lonely Mod 57. No box, no papers or tools. Want over $700, and I'm seriously considering it. Box, papers and tools would likely jump the price by $200-$300. All the other N frames are similarly higher than what we would see in the classifieds here on the forum. Heck, almost everything is higher than what you'd see here on the forum.

So I guess the answer to the original question is (what was the original question?;) ) the price is whatever the market in the area will bear. It's different for everyone.

Being the bearer of bad price news always generates a denial response from some people.

The facts are we have entered a time period where economic pressures and accelerating inflation are combining with scarcity and demand to drive prices upward...

I've been collecting for over 35 years. During the last year or two I've seen people joining the search for nice handguns who never had an interest before. The main motive seems to be the discovery that guns have the potential to be among the best hedges against inflationary pressures found today. Certainly better than real estate, CDs, and other traditional forms of investment.

Combine investment potential with a growing number of serious new collectors and we have the answer for why prices as well as scarcity are increasing at a rapid rate...

I have to say I generally dismiss the "what I'd be willing to pay" or "what I bought one for three years ago" folks as entitled to their opinion, but certainly not a dependable assessment of a guns actual current market value.

There will always be "deals out there" but we may have to spend a few hundred bucks more on gas than usual just trying to find them......:)

TDC's post is spot on.

I have a doctor friend who has no intrest in firearms other than as investments, he's a strong buyer and I keep him out of my playground as much as possible.

There are still people who have money to spend, they see it getting smaller in value and want tangible assets instead of worthless paper.

The days of saying "guns aren't good investments" are over, IMHO.

barrel and cylindar

I don't intend to hijack this thread, but I thought I would jump in since there are very few threads out there about the .41mag. I came accross a .41mag 6" barrel and cylindar in a box of spare parts last night. Since I don't own a .41mag I was wondering what these were worth. I looked on Numrich and they were ~$150 each (the cylindar has the ejector) but were sold out. The other thing is where would I sell such a thing? I thought the forums but it is kindof a specialty item.

I have a M57 no dash, nickel, 4". You could not buy mine for $750. Just not that many for sale, and those that are, are not as nice as mine or they are selling for a higher price. Good luck finding a really good condition M57 for $600.
