J frame side plate
How would you or would you "unbend" a side plate from a Model 31? There is about a 1/16"-1/32" "rock" in the plate. Outside up on a plate of glass. Ends will not touch.

I would try a local machine shop and see if they could use a press to level the plate. That way it would be a very controlled process. I wouldn't try bending or pounding on it. I level saw blades with a hammer for a living and I wouldn't try it. Please post how you come out on this project. Good luck.

Better question is, how does it fit on the gun? It's made to fit the gun, not level on a piece of glass.

What he said, in spades!
The sideplate has raised bosses around the hammer and trigger stud holes, it shouldn't lay flat on a surface plate. If the gun functions properly when fully assembled leave it alone, everything is as it should be.
