Fair trade?
Someone wants to trade my well taken care of and non-abused model 13-2 for a slightly used but tight Dan Wesson 8 inch barrel .22LR revolver. Who comes out ahead on this trade?

Pretty even, but I'd ask for a little cash. Do you want/need the Dan Wesson?

A fair trade is when both parties are happy with what they get out of the deal.
I don't have a Model 13, but I do have a 65-5. I've owned two of the Dan Wesson 22's, both with 6" barrels. I really can't comment on the 13 but the 65-5 is a great shooter, as I'm sure you know.
The Dan Wesson 22's are great guns. They're heavy for a 22 is about the only thing wrong with them. More the size of an "L" frame Smith & Wesson than a K, they are stronger than an ox. You couldn't wear one out if you tried. The two I had, shot like laser beams. I got rid of the first one because I didn't know any better. I got rid of the second one because I had a Model 17 I liked just a little better, and I needed space in the safe for more Smith & Wessons. Nothing at all wrong with the DW, it just didn't fit with the way my "collection" was going.
Personally I wouldn't want an eight inch barrel. My taste tops out at six inches. You might like the longer barrel. The Dan Wesson has an interchangable barrel you know, so you can buy new barrels and shrouds for it if you want.
Money wise, the Dan Wesson is probably worth a little less, all things being equal. Around here Model 13's bring a premium.
Only you can say if it's a fair trade.

What would premium be about?

Model 13's just don't show up often at the shop where I buy most of my guns. They'd want top dollar for it, and wouldn't be likely to budge off that price, because they know they'd get it sooner than later.

I'm concerned about seller's remorse. I didn't like trigger on the dan very much and he didn't have the barrel tool and factory grip either. (I rationalized that I could learn/grow to like it better as time went by) The smith is a safe queen right now & I've been shooting rimfires a lot lately. What I really want is a 1989-1993 617 in 4 inch barrel. Maybe I should sell the model 13 for as much as I can get for it then shop for that 617

I think that you just answered your own question.
I would walk away from that deal. Those Dan Wessons do not go for much around here. And a S&W model 13 in good shape will command a pretty good price.

If the Model 13 is a 3 inch barrel, I'd hang on it. Just don't see those much. That is not to slight the ones with 4 inch barrels -- if I had one, I'd want to keep it -- over any 22.

Same on this end. Mine came with a 6" bbl and I bought a 4" as well.

For goodness sake, keep the M13. Around here those are a rare bird in decent shape. I do see some wore out ones, but not ones in decent to good shape. DWs are OK, but not worth what a M13 is worth especially a DW with an eight inch barrel. Don't sell it, save your money and buy that M617 you want.
