Opinion on price....
...for three revolveres.
S&W 36 no dash blue S/N ANA097XX with 2" barrel?; fired but in pristine condition except for faint line on cylinder. No box or accessories. Price would be $425 out the door.
S&W 40-1 - Looks the same as above with no box or acc's
Price would be $495 out the door.
S&W 19-4 - I would rate this between NRA Factory New and Excellent. 4" barrel. Price is $495 + tax.
All seem high to me but I'm a complete Smith newb.
Thanks for any advice in advance and I'm really loving this forum. Been on it quite a bit the last couple of days and its great.
Cheers.

Here, the price for the 36 is in the $400 range, so I'd see if he'd turn down 4 crisp benjamins. My guess is he won't.

Here's my track on the Model 36. Notice the average price trend in May 2011 was at about $440. The price on the 36 sounds reasonable. I can't help on the 40.
Smith & Wesson 36 1-7/8 in Bbl Revolver inch Square Butt. Bluebook of Gun Values (32nd Edition) indicates between $360 in 95% condition and $535 in 100% condition for this gun. I have 62 recorded prices for this model gun from $250 to $600 over a period of 3 Yrs 5 Mos ending May 16, 2011. The average price as of that date was $394. No refurbs, no refinishes, regular sights. All represented as 95% or better. No distinction for import location or engineering revision, if any, no special editions, no distinctions for box, papers, tools. Current or last MSRP is $822.

GRB,
Presuming we both use the same definition of "pristine" (99%), it's a fair price on the 36, depending on your A.O..
The model 40 value depends, is the squeeze safety pin still with the gun? If not, (many seem to get lost) you may have a little wiggle room on it.
My comments depend on guns being mechanically sound in all respects.

Around here with the number of weekly new concealed carry permits being issue the Model 36 no dash wouldn't last long at $425.

The guns you described are in real good shape compared to the guns that I buy for not that much less. Sounds pretty reasonable. As zellerSC suggests -- flash some cash and see if the seller will move a bit down -- if not, if you like them buy them. Even if some guy on the forum gets a little bit better deal somewhere else, who cares. What's a few buck 10 years from now?

The 40-1 is the recent production Classic Series and has no pin to disable the grip safety, undoubtedly due to liability concerns.
I would offer $375 on the 36 and if the seller didn't go for it I would try to meet him in the middle at $400.
I have seen used 40-1's going for more than that locally, especially if they are nickel or case hardened finishes, but I would probably try offering $450 for it and work up a little if I really wanted it.
I would feel comfortable paying $450 for the 19-4, and maybe a little more if the condition is that good.
JMO based on prices I have seen locally, you may find similar guns for more or less depending upon your locale and the seller. In the end what really matters is what you feel comfortable paying and whether you are happy with your purchase.

I just sold a 36 in the same condition for $550 but I did have the original box. If the 19-4 is really in that nice of shape and it had a box, I would feel fortunate to get it at that price. With no box it still is not a bad deal.
