Have a chance to trade a Glock 19 for a SW Model 28 ...good trade?
Hi all,
I have a chance to trade a good condition Glock 19, with TFO sights and 4 mags - worth at least $450 for a really nice looking (in the picture) S&W Model 28, with a 4" barrel. If the gun is as smooth and functionable as the seller says ...is this a good trade??? Note, the seller tells me the serial # is N311XX...does anyone know when that was made?

If the 28 is nice and has no issues I'd say it was a decent trade. Most 28 I've seen lately are in that price range. Can't help on the date.

Welcome to the Forum!
The 28-2 is from the early 70's...........if it is 95% condition or better with the original S&W medallion grips, it is a good trade.
Looking forward to pictures after you have it.
Good Luck.

It looks pretty good to me. Glock 19s are plentiful and often cheap, and very easily replaced. S&W 28s are getting harder to find. You might find a 28 for a little cheaper if you really hunt for one, so it just boils down to do you want this one now more than you want the Glock.

The s&w model 28 is not being manufactured by s&w anymore so for goodness sake Trade for it. You can always buy another Glock 19
later since it is still being manufactured by Glock.

I also agree with Ziggy; Glocks are everywhere,
The old N frames are harder to find in good shape
I have a 629 from the early eighties - You'll love the 28

The other guy is probably over on the glock talk forum bragging about trading "some old revolver" for a really nice G19.
If both parties are happy then it's a good trade.

If you don't do this deal, there's a couple of dozen of us who want this guys contact info. If he's ignorant enough to trade a 28 for a Glock... well, you can just fill in the rest yourself.

I love my G19, but I would snag that deal in a heartbeat. I can replace a G19 for $425 + tax all day every day.

YES! Some years ago I dumped a G17 (that I couldn't shoot worth a darn) and got TWO nice Security Sixes in trade for it.
I could say that a Glock isn't worth a bucket of warm spit to me, but that would sound crude to some folks...so I won't.

I would go out and buy a Glock 19 to trade for a Smith & Wesson 28.
I would trade my wife's Glock 19 for a Smith & Wesson 28.

For a second there I thought you'd written that you'd trade your wife for a Smith & Wesson 28.
Now, I'd trade my EX-wife for a Smith & Wesson 28...
357snubby; did you really think you'd get any advice other than what you have from a Smith & Wesson board??

BigRix hit the nail on the head -- this forum is for guys who love old S&W revolvers. Most of our guys can barely stomach MIM parts let alone plastic receivers. The Glock never stood a chance.

I'd trade my ex-wife for a Taurus 66, maybe. I probably wouldn't get it, but I'd make the offer.

Top 10 reasons to keep the glock
You never know when you might be in a fire fight immersed in oatmeal.
A glock makes a decent chew toy for puppies.
If gravity doubles the price of plastic will too.
You get better gas mileage going up hill with a glock on board.
You can use a glock as a personal floatation devise.
You won't ever be tempted to use the butt of the glock as a hammer.
You can melt the glock and breath the fumes for a slight buzz.
Glocks look fine in ****** holsters.
You won't get stuck to the big cartoon magnet.
Austria will be happy.

BigRix is right. If you're looking for the best carry piece, you may want to keep the G19. Who knows, the other guy may have just been mugged and decided he needs to get his CPL and wants to replace the big ol' N-Frame with something more "carry friendly". Perhaps such considerations are not important in your situation.
Naturally, it's very predictable what everyone on a S&W Forum is going to say (me included ). You should spend at least a little time thinking about what you want it for.
I see the G19 holds 15 rounds in a flush fitting mag, even more if you don't mind some "protrusion". That's a lot of fire power and reloads are quick!
The way your post is worded, you haven't actually handled the M28. Bear in mind that N-Frames are big guns. Handling them takes some getting used to (at least it did for me, and I have fairly large hands.) They are a great shooting gun, and chambered for the .357 Mag, which is a big step up from 9mm. Or you can shoot .38 Specials which are comparable to 9mm in power. From the M28, recoil from a .38 Special is very mild.
If you ever did have to use it in a self defense scenario (God forbid) keep in mind the legal system may swallow up your gun for years, maybe even forever. You can replace the G19 much easier than the M28.
So think about what you want it for.

Hi:
For CCW: Glock 19: less weight
17 rds 9mm
more comfortable to carry
fast reload with extra magazine
S&W M28: more weight
six rounds
more weight/ difficult to CCW
slower to reload and only six rounds
Parts for Glock is easier to get than S&W.
The S&W value will be greater in the future.
In my parts of the world Glock 19s are very, very popular.

The deal still hasn't gone down yet, as the owner lives about 70 miles away. It just so happens that the M 28 owner is coming to my area on Wednesday, so we are working out a time to meet up and inspect the respective firearms for trade. I like the Glock 19 just fine, but I have another one - a Glock 22. Further, for carry, I have a SW 360 J frame. Man, I just like the looks of those classic N frames. Further, I hear you can shoot pretty much any 357 load out of those big boys. Might make a good woods gun? Either way, if I get it - it will be a shooter not a safe queen.
