Default Model 66 Unboxing

The Model 66 no dash that was first seen in this thread,

Questions on Model 66

is now officially mine.

I've got to find the correct stocks and trigger and the hunt is on.

Can anyone tell me what paperwork I'm missing? I don't see an instruction manual.

Now for the pictures.

From what I can see in your pictures all you need is the Mod 66 instructions/parts data and square butt Goncalo Alves K frame stocks... You have what appears to be a sealed tool kit and you should keep it that way....

I'd find an original trigger for it but keep the target trigger on for now, especially if you intend to shoot it.

Certainly a very nice package for the price you were able to buy it for.

Very Nice no dash, love the SS rear sight and all the goodies (most all anyway).

Oh and nice photography as well.

She's a nice one for sure. I have a 4 inch M66 No Dash NIB and a few 6 models as well. Really likek the balance of the 6 inch K frame with .38's...

Now I need a 2.5 M66 and the coveted 3 inch M66 or a 3 inch 686 CS1...

Stainless rear sight with orange front post? I wonder if that was a tradeout or special order? did S&W ever put out a stainless rear sight with orange front post on a 4" no dash 66 as a stock item?

I have two, a 1972 with stainless front and rear and a 76 with blued rear and orange front post. Treasure it they are indeed works of art and examples of the way they used to make em'.

I don't see any reason to pronounce the red insert as non original. Looks like factory work to me and is certainly possible. Only a letter will tell for sure in my view. Gun was a bargain!

Pretty sure that means it was just an early No Dash 66, stainless rear sight. I have seen both, stainless and blued...

I plan to get a letter for this gun to find out about the front sight. As someone who has never lettered any gun, would anything be noted in the letter if the gun was returned to factory after the fact to have the sight work done?

I doubt the front sight is original but what the heck, you still have a very nice gun, box, and tools, and it should not be a problem to round up the trigger and stocks you would like to have. My understanding is that S&W can only locate records of service work if the name of the owner is known, and the approximate date the work was done. Congratulations to you for rounding up that great looking Model 66.

I have the absolutely correct target stocks and trigger for your model 66.

While they are not free, they will be reasonable.

P.M. sent .

Just an update for you all. I was able to finally lay my hands on the correct stocks for my Model 66.

Still has the wrong trigger but I can live with that.

Whatcha think?

Very nice. Glad you found them. As to the combat or Border Patrol trigger, I can only say I would leave it alone. The Border Patrol trigger is the best trigger for a magnum K-frame. If you plan to shoot the gun, especially if you plan to shoot it both single- and double-action, I would most certainly leave it alone.

I love to see a classic handgun like your no-dash 66 so carefully returned as closely as possible to its original correctness. It takes some real effort and commitment to acquire hard to find parts like your "football" stocks and the continuing hunt for an original trigger.

Congratulations on a project well done! The great pictures of your no-dash speak for themselves...

That no dash is a real beauty for sure.

Not knocking it as it is WAY better than either of mine. Just noticed that they darn near missed the sideplate with that logo.

Awesome looking Model 66!http://smith-wessonforum.com/images/icons/icon10.gif
I have one from 1975,and love the way it shoots. Accurate, and smooth as well. The only things I did to it were a trigger-job,and I replaced the Hammer & Trigger with .500 versions of the same.
This gives me a little more control as I mostly shoot it DAO.
