Default Question about Hong Kong Police model 10's...........

Are they worth any extra money or are they really sought after? I've seen one locally advertised and I know some Police marked revolvers are collected but what about one of these from 1984? What kind of value do they carry in say........95% + ?

Don't think they're worth a premium unless ya collect police guns. Most do seem to be in very good condition , and lanyard rings definately add some cool!

They were sub-$200 just a few years ago. Nothing that special.

I think they're really interesting and I wish I had bought one of the ones I saw back in '91. Still, I don't believe they carry a real premium over a similar Model 10, despite what some enthusiastic sellers might tell you.

Thanks for the information. The local guy wants $425.00 and I thought that might be a little high.

They came in as surplus guns several years back and were selling cheap.
I had one that was like new but never seen them as anything special.
$425 would be the highest that I have seen one priced at.
Maybe it was used as a prop in one of the Godzilla movies.

10 or so years ago my LGS had a crate full of these things, and IIRC the price was just over a hundred bucks each...but NO, I was in my SEMI AUTO phase and knew that I would never "need" a M 10 again, so I shined them on.....one of those things that make you go "@#%&"

Many, many times I've either passed on something or sold something that I didn't think I really needed only to kick myself in the backside in the not too distant future. I can totally relate.

I bought one probably six years ago, a tapered barrel 10-7, and had a fun time gathering up the original equipment for it, flap holster, lanyard, RHKP patch, police whistle, etc.

Added bonus, the finish worn revolver turned out to be one of the most accurate handguns I've ever owned, definite keeper.

And the fact that the "Royal Hong Kong Police" were disbanded in 1997 when Hong Kong was turned over to Mainland China makes them interesting. Hong Kong Police are now "HKP" and are still armed with heavy barrel Model 10's, but with modern police holsters with retention devices, no more lanyards.

Hong Kong has the largest police force in the world, bigger than the NYPD, one police officer for every 200 or so citizens. I read somewhere they are also probably the most effective, with a crime resolution rate around 50%, if you commit any crime in Hong Kong, theft, burglary, car break in, etc, there is a good likely hood you are going to get caught.

Just when you think the RHKP model 10's are just another model 10, something strange comes along.

Colt Police Positive in .38S&W-.38N.P.
