My Model 27-2 'Skeeter' Gun
Like many here, Skeeter Skelton influenced me to no end when it came to guns and loads.
It took me long enough, but I finally got it gathered up. It came with smooth goncola alves on it. I'm 100% they came special ordered on the gun.
I was hoping to have me a set of Roper's made of fancy walnut, but...I ran into the grips you see on it now at a really nice price. I think Skeeter would approve.
Thanks,
Murphy2000

I posted in another thread on the board, I'm not 100% certain but I 'think' they're *Cokes*.
Now, just gotta break out some new WW brass and my Lyman #358156molds. (Okay I have some cast up already, but figure I'm gonna need more...lots more).
Thanks for the compliments gentlemen!!!

I like you thought a lot about what Skeeter said....he was a real gem! We lost a good man when he passed.

Good job on your Skeeter gun.
I have had 5 inchers for a long time and could never understand why they are not more popular.

That is a very nice six-gun, congratularions & thanks for sharing.
I think a 5" is a nice bbl length, a good lenght for both carrying & shooting.

Love 'em. Also a Skeeter fan, this is my second 5" 27. Let the first one get away, this one isn't going anywhere unless it would be to acquire a 5-screw gun just like it. It's a great shooter, too. I like to feed it 168 gr. Keiths with a healthy but not maximum charge of 2400. It didn't have any pants on when I got it, found a pair of walnut targets that needed a little TLC and modified them slightly (rounded the bottom edges, which were pretty nicked up).

I found mine over in Tyler, Texas a few years ago. It was wearing goodyears and I still haven't found a set of grips I want to put on it.
These grips are from one of the recent "Classic" models.

i recall Skeeter writing that he owned a total of 5 5" M-27s, so you might have gotten one of his.

My woods gun
I ordered a set of Herretts built to Skeeter Skelton's specifications years ago and they ride on whatever N-frame I happen to be using. They are Ropers with an oil finish and built to a tracing of my own hand. They were ludicrously inexpensive for what I got.
After experimenting with many holsters over the years, I've also grown to prefer a simple Threepersons belt rig for carrying a big gun...yet another idea suggested by the greatest of gunwriters. The outer belt makes it easy to slip on and off when going in and out of the woods and it allows one a totally comfortable way to wear a full sized hogleg all day long.
Here is a picture of one of my Model 27-2s.

Great looking Model 27 and stocks! That gun should handle any .357 you care to put in it and still be comfortable for shooting.

December "Guns"
Just got the magazine in the mail and good ol' John Taffin's back page article is all about Skeeter Skelton and his impact on us handgunners. Well written, as usual.

Skeeter was a class act! My second daughter was born while I was reading Sally Jim's collection of his stuff and I nicknamed her Skeeter.
Very nice gun man. VERY NICE! Dripping with envy.

27's are nice and may very well be the cruisers of the class but the 28's are the unattractive, under appreciated, wart hogs of the destroyer class.
I WILL own a a 57 before my days pass, just because.
Blessings
