Default Highway patrolman grip

1. Are all highway patrolman models square butt or were round butts made?

2. Will all N frame grips fit the patrolman or do I need to look for ones specific to the highway patrolman?

The one offerred to me is 6 inch barrel, .357, serial number 73xxx.

I am being offered this by a friend in another state and the serial number he sent me with the pictures is not consistant with what i read on here about serial numbers. It has target grips and an adjustable rear sight. also a pinned barrel.

any comments?

All HP's are sq. butt and all sq butt N frame grips will fit a HP.
All HP's have either a "S" or "N" prefix in front of numeric serial number - best place to find it is to remove the grips and look on the butt of the grip frame
