Default Bought A S&W At the Gun Show Today

I ended up buying a S&W 15-4, two inch at the gun show today. The serial # is 89K76XX. It appears to be unfired. Its in the original box, all papers and tools with it. The barrel is pinned, but the cylinder is not recessed (I don't remember the Model 15 ever having a recessed cylinder). It has lite a turn line on the cylinder, other than than it appears to be just like the new one I bought in 1974, NIB from a LE Wholesaler.

If anyone could tell me when it was manufactored and the approximate value of it, I would greatly appreciate it.
I'm sure I paid too much for it, but I've wanted one since I traded the other one I had to a fellow Detective for a S&W 27, 3 1/2 inch. He was getting older and wanted a lighter gun and I was young and dumb.

Thanks before hand.

I believe it's a 1980 gun.

After you shoot a snubbie model 15 and see how well they perform, it's hard to put a value on that. But if you got it in the $350.00- $400.00 range you did real OK.If you still have the mod 27 you broke even if you paid more.

Pretty sure they only recessed magnums and rimfires. Nice snag on the 15 snubbie. they are all business.

Thanks, I was supprised to see that a two inch, Model 15, Unfired in the original box, with all the papers and tools would only bring $350.00 to $400.00.

Them guys on them auction sites and the folks where I live are a little high on their prices.

Again, Thanks guys......

What I learned from umpteen years in retail is that there is no Moses who comes down from the mountain with vintage retail values inscribed in stone. Values are fluid, change all the time. I'd say that $350-$400 is low for the type of gun your describing, based on my limited experience.

Old timers won't pay much, younger collectors pay more. If you want to sell me that gun for $400 I'll buy it in a heartbeat. So I suspect there are people who will pay more. Congratulations on a great gun and an excellent value!

I paid $400 plus shipping 2 years ago for this one. it dates to June 74 and although it has some handling marks it hadn't been fired outside the factory until I got it. It now has proven it's accuracy many times over. Shoots just as well as the 4" 15-2.

$350 to $400 is an absolute garage sale find in Texas for a 15 in the box. Man, I would get all I could get my hands on at that price.

Just MHO.

Hard to find a beater for that price around here in NC. You did REAL GOOD! Have a mini version (2" 34) that's extremely accurate and will someday have a 15 for a big brother to it.

I paid a bit less for mine but it's been messed with and is a long way from original.
Still shoots very well and is one of my favorite revolvers.

You'd pay a lot more than $400 for a like new in the box Model 15 (2") around here. Whatever you paid -- feel good about it. It's just a shame you don't have your 27 anymore. That's a great gun too.

Ashlander,
I still have the 27 and three more of them. I have four grandsons and they are for them, among the others I have for them. Three are 3.5 inch guns and one's a 5 inch gun.
