I would like feedback from the experts here as to the model # or name & change, approximate year built, condition %, any ideas of rarity or desirability, approximate value range, and any other helpful comments. Thanks.
S&W, Model 19-4 .357mag. 4” Nickel Ser. # E8 93322
with box (age ?)
Regards,
Rich King

Using a proper screwdriver, pop the grips off that puppy and run the bottom of the grip number by. That'll get what you seek. Joe

Like he said, take the grips off and get the real serial number.
Beautiful M19.

If I'm reading the serial number correctly (AAK2493[???], the number above the model number), your Model 19-4 would have been shipped sometime between October and December 1982. Yours might be a transitional model, the end of the 19-4, and before the 19-5.
Yours would likely have a recessed cylinder (not mandatory if it was made at the end of the run). If the box shown is for the revolver, it should also have the serial number written on it.

I just removed the grips on this puppy and this is what I found.
Under the right grip is the #04550
Under the left grip is the #23322
and on the wood grip it's stamped in ink 08 9 just like this with the space between the 8 & 9
Dennis & Pharmer,
The letters you refer to are: 64K2493 above the Mod. 19-4

Rich, 64K2493 looks like 1980. The number on the bottom of the metal grip frame is almost always the serial #. HTH. Joe

Looks like they misread an assembly number when stamping them.
