Model 64 Stamped CDC
Went looking for me a 64 after seeing TNDave's and saw more than one seller on GB with the guns marked CDC.
Any info appreciated!

There were a bunch of them offered on GunBroker, Auction Arms, and GunsAmerica in March and April almost all listed at $389 or $399.
The model has have gone up in price significantly since then.
There was an extensive description you can still read if you search for completed sales.

I got one from Robertson's as well. It cleaned up nice and shoots as good as any of my other K Frame .38's...

Mine's not stamped CDC but I'm pretty confident that it has a law enforcement background. I bought it from a local dealer here in Tucson for $384, which is just about exactly what GunsAmerica was asking for the CDCs. When I got it it was filthy, I doubt whether the previous owner ever cleaned it. It took me a couple of hours to scrub off the accumulated filth and I still haven't done anything about the relatively few surface dings. Once I got her cleaned up, however, I realized what a great purchase I made. It's accurate, light, and a perfect carry piece.
The gun came to me with huge Pachmayr grips. I replaced them with a set of Uncle Mike's boot grips that came originally with a 686SSR.

Got mine at the Valley Forge show this summer. Solid mechanically, the wood was beat up and it has a few scuffs. I'm pleased overall.

Yep, mine was banged up as well, but I opted for an early one with pinned bbl. I bought mine as my bro in law is retired from the CDC. He was a guard at Vacaville Prison in California. It shoots real well and is currently in my nightstand loaded with +P ammo. Big Larry

I know this is an old thread, but here's mine. SN dates it to 1987 or so. Stamped CDC XXXXX on left side of frame, under cylinder. What I find interesting is that the SCSW mentions the 4" Model 10's bought by CDC (along with several others) as a Special and Variation, but there's no similar mention in the Model 64 section. Did CDC just take a stock 64 and stamp it themselves?

There is no doubt that one of the best buys in S&W revolvers, are Law Enforcement "turn ins".
It is a shame none of these Depts. ever issued 4" Mod 29's...

I had been looking for that model and came across the CDC marked 64's.
Held out til I found an regular production piece.
Looks factory fired only...I still have not shot it.

Interesting fact about the selling of the CDC 64s.
Of course we all know how rabidly anti-gun CA politicians are. So when the agency had all these surplus revolvers, there was a big dispute over whether to sell them or melt them. It was a toss up counting empty heads amongst the state legislature. In the end, the monetary value of selling them won out over melting them but only with the condition that they only be sold to licensed dealers (nobody expected direct sales to citizens) and they had to be sold out of state. None were sold to dealers in CA. Or maybe a CA FFL could buy them but he couldn't sell retail to CA residents. One way or another they mandated that the guns leave the state.
So I guess these guns were too dangerous to sell in the state but the idiots didn't mind shipping them to other states were the evil guns could wreak their havoc? Nice.
