Model 34-1, 6 inch barrel
Is anyone aware of any S&W literature that documents production of a Model 34-1, with a 6 inch barrel and round butt? If so, how rare is it? I saw a revolver today as described, and in a box with an end label that matched the description, but due to recent laser surgery on my eyes, and poor light, I did not get the s/n. I can get more detail if there is a chance its correct, and worth about $1500. The label on the box did look correct to me. Any help is appreciated.

I'm not aware of any, but anything is possible. In that configuration, it should be a Model 35 (.22/32 Target) though.

I hought that also at first, but then had the idea it would have to be a 34 with special barrel length to get the round butt?

Was it marked 34-1 under the yoke?

Yes, it is stamped 34-1 in the yoke. It has diamond grip stocks with the more course checkering of later diamonds. I don't know if they are stamped to the gun or not.

You Never Know!!
Hi Guy,
Never say never with S&W!! Personally,I don't remember ever hearing of any of these produced, but if it was in the Correct "Original" Shipping Box & has a Serrated Ramped Front Sight rather than the Patridge Front Sight used on the Model 35's,I'd definitely be checking into it!! If Correct,it's well worth the $1500 asking price if it "Letters"!! That's the "Only" way to know for sure!! I know there are a few "Fixed" Sight Model 34 2-Incher's floating around out there somewhere, but I've never heard of any 6 Inch Barrel Variation Model 34's ever!! Please let us know how you make out if you decide to pursue it!!

Never say never with the factory, but since the model 35 was being produced at the same time personally I would be suspicious about it being a parts gun with a box label of "newer vintage". You should be able to clarify matters if you can get the SN, and my apologies to the seller if it turns out to be authentic.

Well, I have a 34-1 6" round butt too! This one can be explained though, it has been re-barreled. I know this is so, since I owned it at the time.
It is completely possible the gun you saw came about the same way, possibly as a special order. It is highly un-likely it was a mis-marked Model 35 since it is a round butt frame.
