| | Model 36 Manufacture date Just picked up a Model 36, no dash. Blue with a pinned 1 7/8" bbl. Was wondering if anyone could tell me what year it was manufactured. S/N is 619XXX. The person I bought it from thought it had been made around 1968. Plus I also have a Model 10, blue with a 6" bbl that was my Dad's and I know he got it from his brother in the 60"s and I was wondering what year that one was manufactured. S/N C420XXX. Can anyone help?
Thanks as I am fairly new to this site |

| | 1967 or '68 would be a good guess for your model 36; someone here may have a factory letter or more specific information. The model 10 looks to have been shipped in 1959. Hope this is helpful.

| | Just picked one up yesterday 3986xx.ScSw just shows1962-69 range. Would appreciate any info that could pin it down a tad. Pinned, flat latch, grips correct, all that good stuff. 12 many, hope you don't mind me riding in on your thread? Just wondering about that 36, as you are. Thanks
Regards
Bill

Bill | A similar situation, the SN range as you noted from the SCSW is vague. The flat latch went away in 1966 and I would guess yours is pretty close to the end of the run.

| | Hi,
The low 300,000 serial number range on my "flat latch" + "diamond stock" original Model 36 dates it to around 1964. Indeed, you have one of the last of the flat latch models.
When I see a flat latch and/or diamond stocked Smith in a gun shop my knees get a little weak . . . and sometimes my wallet gets a little lighter too!!!
Here's mine in a Mitch Rosen UPL left-handed holster . . . a great holster for a classic revolver indeed! |
