I lost my Model 60
I was going through the safe this weekend checking the guns, wiping them down, and basically making sure everything is in order. I had the Model 60 out as my wife walked in....
"Oh, thats a nice one, is it mine?"
"No honey, yours is the little Taurus 85 you picked out before we were married. It in its usual spot where you can get to it. This ones a Smith."
"Its really nice! Can I see it?"
Dang it......guess I can't complain too much.....anybody want to buy a Taurus?

Ron, Same thing happened to my Model 49. No sympathy here either. Looks like you let Cam see the grass on the other side and she knows it's greener

I was visiting my son last weekend and my ex-wife was there and I got to see the model 36 I bought many years ago. No she didn't point it at me, we actually get along these days.
It caused me to buy another 3" model 36 I found posted here.

I hope it never happens, but someday your wife may be called on to save your bacon. Wouldn't you really rather have her armed with a S&W?

That's not as isolated an event as you might surmise.
A couple of months ago a friend of mine brought a model 60 to me to be detailed. It was pretty gunked-up inside, and really smooth afterward.
He emailed me back with a very similar story. His wife thought it was the cat's meow.

Lost a model 38 Bodyguard Airweight made in 1963, flat latch. She said I bought it for her & upon her death it should go to the youngest stepson. Funny I don't remember it that way. Anyway I haven't got it back for over 20 years. So I gave up & bought another one for myself oh well!

I must be lucky. For the last 35 years I've managed to avoid that fate by buying only blued S&Ws. My bride prefers stainless, so she never wanted mine - she wanted one like mine, but in stainless. About 3 years ago I bought a 642 with plans to pick up another as soon as she spotted it. She could care less - no hammer - go figure.
Her CCL arrived last week, so unless she adopts Daddy's Colt Cobra I see a 60 or 637 in the future. The 67 is just a touch big for her to conceal.

Yeah. Love will find a way . . .
Sometimes I buy one for SWMBO first. If she likes it, I buy another or something very similar for myself. Life is good!
This is her favorite 1911. At one time, I had one just like it . . .

Yes this is a common theme.. my wife has claimed my SW 910, 3913, Ruger SR9C, Colt Mustang 380, CZ75BD, Ruger Mark III .22, SW 2313... ....at least she doesn't like my .45s, .357s and .38 special and .22 revolvers or my 10mms. As long as I stop buying 9mms and smaller semi autos I am safe.

I lost my 3" 60-4 38 special to the wife and this weekend I officially lost my 1947 Transitional M&P Snubby to my 12 year old Son. He shot over 250 rounds with it this weekend.
Oh well. It gets to stay in the family.
My 14 year old stole my Ruger Super Redhawk Alaskan 2 incher. Tried to steal one of my 3.5's, but that didn't work, told him to just wait till I croak. He can have them all.

When the Aussie Model 10's were for sale at Bud's and hot on the site I decided to order one for my small 3" S&W revolver collection. It arrived and I brought it home to check it out and clean it up.
My wife really does not shoot much, and I was surprised when she saw it and said "That's mine." She shoots it well and its destined to be her house gun. I'm OK with that as it gets her shooting more.
She liked my Model 60 when I brought it home, but didn't like the recoil with +P .38's. She really liked the 940 when it arrived, but didn't like the trigger pull. I told her it probably recoiled more than the Model 60 and she said "OK, you keep it then."

It just so happens that the only gun my wife likes between ours is one of mine I'd like to sell.
She's let me buy a couple more recently so I can't complain.

Ditto: H&K P7/PSP. And of late she has cast a possessive eye on the Appleton ASP 9mm. I had mentioned trading it to upgrade my collection and received The Look.

Lost a Mod. 60 to divorce.
When she remarried, she married a guy that had more guns than me.
So I got mine back.

I used to bring something home and show it to the wife. I am a slow learner. After a 3" 60-10, 617, and a 2.5" 66, went the way of "for me?!?!?" , we have canceled all show and tell sessions with new guns. so much for transparency. The open door policy no longer applies to the safes.

I've always maintained a "don't ask/don't tell" relationship with the wife, and it's worked out well all these years. Of course, it helps that she doesn't care too! :-)

Tried that. Eventually they know. "When did you get that one?" Thus begins the interrogation.
Sigh. At least she likes guns.

My wife and I went to the LGS many years ago, and bought her a M85 Taurus. She shot and really liked that Taurus. I bought a M12-3, snub a couple of years later. She took that one. She really liked that M12-3. Recently, I bought a M64 3". Yep, you guessed it, she took that one. The good news is that I have my M12-3 snub back.

Honestly Jimmy, I think she'd be a little ticked. She picked it out before we got married when I told her she needed a gun around the house. She was already a pretty darn good shot. I was tryin' to talk her into a semiauto, bein' all high speed and tactical in my yout. She wanted the little revolver though and wouldn't hear of a bottom feeder. Here we are 31 years later, turned out she was right all along......

My grandsons claim my whole safe is theirs - and that's a lot of guns. I tell them "not while you live in New York City they're not!!!!"
Maybe they'll get lucky and move away from there some day - Gramps ain't that far away - seriously, it's just Dallas, TExas - it ain't THAT far!

I once took my wife to the range. She tried my 2 1/2" S&W 66. Well that gun became hers. That is her home defense gun now and I couldn't feel better. She chose a gun that I used when I was a Security Supervisor and Private Investigator. I knew it was very capable of proteting and defending her should the need arise. Besides it gave me a reason to buy my 3" S&W 65.

I lost one almost the same way, only it was to my daughter. She came over one day and saw a model 60 I had just bought at a pawn shop for $300.00. I already had one in the safe I had bought her mother in 1971. This one was a couple of hundred numbers different. Her Mom was killed in the line of duty in 1984. When she saw the gun she asked why I had her Mom's old gun out of the safe. I told her Mom's gun was still in the safe and I had just bought this one because at that price I couldn't leave it there. Her comment was "well, you don't need two of them." I guess I didn't.

Many years ago I asked my divorce lawyer how it was going to turn out.
My lawyer said: You get half and she gets half, then she gets half of your half and I get the other half of your half.
I said: Then what does that leave me?
My lawyer said: Do the math.

My solution has been to enter the house and proclaim "Honey, I bought you another gun". With my proclivity for 4" and less, S&W wheel guns it works great.

I think I have just lost my Ruger Mark I to my daughter. I'm not complaining. She and I are going to the range together every week.

will I ever learn
Got my 60 back from the ex. My wife saw it, held it and said "I like this."
Looks like I may lose it again.
Maybe if I tell her the ex had it for a while, she'll leave it alone.

Okay guys, this is a sorry situation for one of our forum members. I for one will show some compassion, Sir I feel your pain. Women are mean and men are innocent victims. In my house I live with my wife and two teenage daughters, my wife couldn't care less about any gun. However both my daughters love to shoot semi-autos, rifles or pistols, they don't care too much for revolvers. The attitude of my daughters is not one I am inclined to change, but I am slightly worried last week my oldest daughter did mention something about wanting to shoot some revolvers..... I believe it is time to be afraid, very afraid...... Any suggestions or sage advise from the learned members of the forum would be appreciated,,, or am I in deep do do???????

I'm starting to be thankful that my wife doesn't like guns.

My wife actually got me into the firearm enthusiast mode. We'd be at the Base Exchange and I'd tell her "Babe, I'm gonna look at the video games." Her reply was "O.K., I'll be at the gun counter."
Although her "arsenal" is better than mine, I'm catching up!
