Picked Up a 17-4 Today Couple of ?
Picked up a really nice 17-4 Today has Target Hammer &Trigger, Have a couple of questions Serial # 21K40XX can anyone tell Me When it was made? Also anyone got a picture of what the correct S&W Target Stocks that should be on this gun? It now has a set of Pachmeyer's on it & I would like to replace them with the correct stocks.

Congratulations!
You have a late 1970’s K-22 Masterpiece. These are N frame target stocks, but K frame targets from the same time looked similar (only they fit a K frame). The circle inserts on the back side (washers) will be silver colored (stainless).

Collectors call them football targets, because the extractor relief cut is shaped like a football (if you use your imagination). S&W didn't use that terminology. Later targets are relieved for a speedloader and a have a large semicircular cutout.

I have two model 41's and love them but my 17-4 with 8 3/8 inch barrel out shoots both of them. I asked it just the other day why and it said they are pistols and I'm a want to be rifle.
