Default I have a few more questions about this model 65-4 from a friend........

I understand that a lot of the model 65's were used in Police Departments and that is what I believe that I am dealing with here. Any information would be greatly appreciated. The serial has been duplicated, by hand, under neath the barrel where the ejector rod fits. Probably because the factory serial number is hidden by the Uncle Mikes factory grips. There are two other markings on the gun on the bottom of the handle.......one starts with an xx.... the other is hand engraved 7818 781. Does this mean anything to yo guys in the know out there? Unfortunately there are not any definitive markings as to which Dept. it came from. I have also added a pic. of the gun with Faux Black Pearl grips, one of my favorites for nickel and stainless revolvers. Many thanks for any information passed on.

The 781 on the crane (aka the yoke) is so it stays matched up with the frame during the manufacturing process...note the same number on the frame also. the XX number appears to also be a manufacturing code of some type...not sure what that corresponds to. The engraved serial number on the underside of the barrel is the only marking that doesn't appear to be made by the factory.
