S&W Mod. 67 Combat Masterpiece .38 Special
Hi there,
I bought a nice model 67-2 today
with Serial number BPT 7220.
The barrel says: .38 S&W Special CTG.
I would like to know the meaning of CTG
and the year of production?????
Thank you, guys

Yes. I can't believe how often this question comes up.
Having lived with this stuff all my life, it just seems to be too obvious. I guess it isn't.

Well, it seems to be a 1993 serial number. If so, your example comes from the very end of dash 2 production, as the dash 3 was released that year.
But keep in mind that S&W serial numbers are not an infallible guide to release dates and the matter seemed to get worse after the implementation of the 3-letter serial numbers.
And welcome to the forum!
Regards,
JP

;-) CTG....does seem to be superfluous.When I ask for a box of 38 specials at the LGS,the clerk doesn't ask,"You mean cartridges?"

My LGS knows I'm a gunnie,so he might interpret my request as wanting a "boxful" of Model 10s, 15s,67s,etc. ;-P
