Howdy. Thought I would throw on a photo of one of the guns I don't shoot as often as I would like to/should. Any bright spots in the photo is just reflection of light. The blue is basically 99%+, with a very,very slight cylinder stop rub. It shows more in the photo because of the light, than in reality, basically like the bottom pic. There is a bit of oil marks I didn't clean properly for the pics either.
Now for the bad part, the ejector rod bluing has thinned a bit.

I'm not that good with finding serial number dates. This one is N419419, so I'm not sure of the year of manufacture. I have no idea as to value, but I'll be keeping it for a while. At least till my 6 year old is ready to shoot it. I've got the plethora of other revolvers and slide guns to shoot, so this one is more of a drama queen.

Yup the blue plastic tray is broke and worn, so I only take it out for the cheese cake.

Nice looking gun. If you want the liner restored, there is a forum member who does great work at reasonable prices.

Nice 27, looks great. If it were mine I would get the box liner fixed it is very easy to do and inexpensive. The 5" boxes are almost as hard to find as the 3.5" and when you do find one the price will shock ya. Save as many broken pieces as possible so they can be epoxied back in. That box could be repaired and refelted in a couple hours and about $10 in materials.

Here's my 1975 27-2 5" in the box. Luckily my liner has held together just fine. This box is a bit unusual as the corners are mitered which I've been told is factory but I don't know for sure.

If you're shooting others to save that one, I'd suggest rethinking. I shoot mine, a near copy of your's, and have done so for the 30 years I've had it since I bought it new. None better, the Cadillac of the entire S&W line, perfect barrel length. There is a good reason this was the favorite revolver of the late Skeeter Skelton.

and its a good looking inbetween between the 6 and the 4 inch, giving it the look of the 19 although I would imagine it might be a little tricky to get a factory holster for it though.

You can still shoot them alot and take care of them...they will last. Here's mine, same vintage as your's:

I understand completely about the "unfired" thing. It's just, I put 25k worth every year through the other 4 K frames during PPC season. Lot's of snow on the ground now, till approx April and I'll start again. It's my only safe queen/wall hanger, until maybe I find a pre 29 in the same condition.

My yin and yang are at odds right now.

Gotta love the 5" 27...the -2 variation is my first pick. Available, still well-made and affordable. This one has Herrett's Ropers; Skeeter Skelton's favorite.

Nice !! I also like the 5 inch bbl. I'd be hanging on to it as well. Lucky kid !!!

This one will eventually become a .44 special but works pretty good as is.

kind of an odd grip on it, has it been shortened and redone?

When I bought mine new in 1970 it had no extras. I sent it back to smith and had all extras put on plus my name engraved in gold.

Here's my Model 27-2, 5" with Keith Brown grips on it. I have not shot it and am not sure I will, as I have my Model 28's for shooting.

That "odd" grip is after I cut the stocks down to fit my hand, rounded the edges for better carrying. I've done this to a couple, and it works just fine - better IMO than either the Magnas w/ Tyler or the targets or clones that are stock. My issue is the last two fingers have very little purchase on the factory targets, and lots of wood remains below the hand that is useless. Here's another, this one a M57:

Yep , I like the feel and balance of my 5in 27 better than my 6in Highway Patrolman.

I ment odd in the sense that it doesnt quite line up with the checkering on the bottom, but I can see how that would change your grip angle with the gun and allow you to easily grasp the gun better.

The 5" 27-2 is my favorite S&W handgun. fyimo's pictures are an excellent representation of these fine guns as usual....

One of the unique features of the 27 is the checkered top strap and rib -- a feature no other S&W shares.... justifying it being proclaimed the "Premium" S&W handgun.

Here is a 5 inch 27-2 that I bought new in May, 1973, with it's original stocks. This gun has not been fired since leaving the factory.

So good to see members like you, teesur, have the self discipline, foresight and lack of need to shoot them all.

You have a large collection of new and unfired early guns that are beautiful representations of their era. Like the huge majority of my collection, yours appear to be not only new and unfired since original delivery but you are also the original owner. Very few people can claim that with the earlier P&R era guns..

I bought a 5" 27 exactly like the one you picture back in 1977. It was in the BP blue box and S&W had just raised the retail price to a whooping $187. Almost didn't buy it but today it sits well maintained in a box covered with drool marks from people who have tried to talk me out of it....

If you ever consider parting with any of your NIB guns keep me in mind...

Here's mine with a pair of Keith Brown magnas & a Heiser holster.The guy I bought the holster from made an extension with a male & female snap so he could also use the holster with target stocks.

Fyimo, oh, I understand your point, just disagree in a very friendly way. Just as I have some friends who will not take their fine rifles and shotguns to the field (and have the means to endure any damage w/ replacements), my good stuff does what it was meant to do.

I also keep my Bullitt Mustang in the garage and I take good care of it, but it sure gets driven.

I'm almost ashamed to post these pictures after looking at these others, but the guns are nice.

Thanks Terry, but sorry, I don't know any history on it. I picked it up a couple of years ago just like that. It had the original box with it, but nothing else. I've never bothered to letter it.
