WOW, theres a lot of fantistic 44's pictured here !
I'm have no photography skills but will post these pics anyway. Hopefully somebody can tell me how to get such great pics.

These are my two model 29-2's, 6 1/2" barrels. Top one is my best one kept in the vault, the bottom one is the one I have carried for many a year, and it shows.

Heres my 29-2 nickel 8 3/8" barrel.

And heres my 629-4 Classic and 629-1 3" barrel.

I don't think your gun is from 1980. More likely 1982, just before the dash one came on stream - you apparently have a transitional example. The dash ones were neither pinned nor recessed. A factory letter might be in order to nail the shipping date.

This one was purchased brand new in 1980. Has given perfect satisfaction with a fairly high round count since then.

The 629 Classic is a -4 and my first .44 mag.The 29-2 is the closest thing to a safe queen I own.It sees range time and and occasional woods carry. The 629 is a true working man's gun.A retired Air Force Col.once told me Smith&Wesson handguns were built for using, Colts were built to look at.I don't buy into that completely, but hey everyone is entitled to their own ideas.Great guns in this thread.

Well Big J, your photo came out quite clear and with good detail. Red's my favorite color so that background looks good. Oh, and the pistole looks fine too.

Occasionally something will occur to me that really drives home how fast time goes by. Here is an example. I bought this 4-screw M29 from an Alaskan bush pilot 40 years ago. I remember answering the ad in the paper and going to the guy's house like it was just last month. He kept it in his Super Cub in a leather holster. It had obviously gotten damp a lot as it had a few freckles here and there and there was blueing wear, but it hadn't been fired much. I changed that by running thousands of rounds through it, mostly the Keith load which is all I used for a long time. I packed it on hunting and backpacking trips for years. This revolver is semi-retired now, but it is just as good as it ever was.

Kris - Ill speak for Pat because I know the history of these Beauties.
I sent KB a couple pair of Factory, smooth Rosewood target stocks some time back and he checkered them for me giving them a vintage and unique look.

There are some great looking .44s here. I have to say, the gun photography shown here on the Smith & Wesson forum is the best gun on the web. You all do a great job.

Anyway, here are mine. A pre-29 that somehow ended up with a 5 inch barrel and my 629 from the first day or two of production.

629-5

It's a very pretty gun but beauty is only skin deep, as this gun exemplifies (bad rifling near forcing cone, undersize throats, latter corrected).

E: Probably doesn't belong here, its post 1980....

I only have two model 29's. The first is a 1973 vintage 6 1/2" blued revolver (Dirty Harry era). Came with the presentation box and tools. I later bought paperwork for it that appears to be the correct vintage.

The second one is a 1980 vintage 6" nickel revolver. The neat thing about it is that it came with the blue box, presentation box, and the big cardboard box that held everything. Also has the tools and paperwork.

My only N-Frame at this time. It's a 629-4, RB, w/ Hogue grips. The prop rod idea was for my sister, she gave me the Pez dispenser, and we're both fans of Loony Toones. (And Seinfeld!)

But I should have polished it (the gun) before I took the photo!
