Default Holster help for a Model 12

I need a little help finding a holster.

I bought my grandfather a 2" 12-2 for a carry gun, but I'm having a hard time finding him a holster.

He would like a right hand, outside waist band, thumb break holster.

Black or tan, doesn't matter.

Would I be able to use a holster for a 2" model 19?

Not many holsters are listed specifically for the 12.

Thanks in advance.

Any 2" K-frame (10, 12, 15, 19) etc will work.
My Model 12 came with an original S&W holster. My 2" model 64 fits perfectly.

Check the fourm classifieds and internet auction sites, any holster for a Model 10 with a 2" barrel will fit your model 12. You can probably pick up a quality used leather holster for $35 or less if you are patient.

The Model 12 frame, versions no dash through -3 are 1/8 inch narrower than the standard K frame.

Not enough to make a difference in a holster selection.

The standard K frame grips need to be reworked to fit the early version frames.

In the last variation, the -4, the frame was identical to the steel K frame.

I have several from TT Gunleather. He has a quite a few OWB and IWB options from which to choose. I like the KX Lightweight by TT Gunleather. Have a few cut for 3" K frames for use with both 2" and 3" guns. Have a couple cut just for 2". Use them with 10, 12, 13, 64, and 65.

A few Models 12 with TT Gunleather

Congrats on the gun and the holster. It will be a good carry gun, given the light weight. Keep in mind, if it's in minty gun, a holster will wear the finish off the frame of a blued model 12 in no time flat. Almost no model 12's are without holster wear, even many in very nice condition, as the alloy frame doesn't hold the finish well, so it's unlikely you have a minty gun. But in case you do, I thought you should know.

Thanks Jim. You are absolutely right...the alloy frame loses finish much faster than traditional blue. Good thing I am not one of those guys who cares about that sort of thing My favorite revolvers are those with a bit of honest wear. That said, the nickel pair tends to stay in the safe. anodizing / bluing can wear and look good. The same way a muddy Jeep looks good. Peeling nickel looks like ****.

NOTE...I carry one of them with a Barami Hip Grip and it has held up well in my sweaty waist band (intermittently for a couple summers).

I carry mine in this suede-lined Bucheimer Concealer on a 1.75 inch belt.
