Model 19 K-Frame Round or Square Butt?
Gentlemen,
Need your help on helping me determine if my Model 19 is a round or square butt?
I'm considering putting a pair of Pachmayr or other suggested target grips on the gun.
I recently was at the local Cabela's and was looking at the Pachmayr's when I noticed there were either round or square grips for the K frame.
Unfortunately, no one at Cabela's could help me determine what the Model 19 has and I didn't have the gun with me to help determine the outcome.
I've attached a picture so you wizards can help me find out what I have?
Thanks Much!!!

With those stocks and barrel, it's likely a square-butt revolver. Take the stocks off and look. If it's a square-butt, the back of the grip frame will come to a point. If it's a round-butt, the back of the grip frame will curve back toward the revolver muzzle.

Go to the S&W site, accessories, grips and it will show you a picture of a round butt and square butt revolver. Than you can check your gun and know for sure.

I think I see a pin in that barrel. Did they even have round-butts back then?

Thanks for the responses!!! I will take grips off and look at the S&W website to see what it is!!!!!
In a previous post, I was told this is a 1973 vintage gun, so from what I've read here, it must be a pinned barrel?
Thanks Again for the help!!!

I owned two separate 2" K frame pinned barrel .38's that were round butt models.
Pretty sure Smith made round butt .357's that were pinned back then on models with 3" or 2.5" barrels.

A round butt can look like a square butt but a square butt can't look like a round butt..
I just bought a round butt 19-4 2.5' barrel. So I know they made them in the 70's.

It's a square butt. I'll trade you a set of Pachmayr's for the grips in the picture.

The only regular production round butt frames on P&R era Mod 19's and 66's were for 2 1/2" barreled guns.
All the 4" guns of those two model numbers during that time were square butt. The "football" targets on your gun are square butt.
Yours appears to have a Bo-Mar rib and sights. That can give the illusion the barrel is shorter which could confuse some observers..
