Default 29-2 grip question...

I picked up a 29-2 for a good price made in about 1980 with a 6 inch barrel. It had Goodyears on it and I picked up a set of mint Goncalo Alves n frame targets from a buddy to go on it.

Here is my question. The target grips I picked up have the speedloader cut out. I am thinking they should be footballs to be correct. I am hoping a wise one will say, "Both are correct for 1980." but I am thinking I need footballs. Any opinions?

I believe the "cut-out" style appeared in 1983. A 1980 S&W should have the "football" style to be correct.

Thanks Saxon,

I kinda thought the same. So I guess I will be looking for some footballs ca 1980.

IIRC to be completely correct they will also have silver washers...but that's splitting hairs.
